None of my lens has shades
IIRC you have mostly modern lens so flare wont be too much of a problem will it Joe
Use filter for protection if you want.

Winter's coming, you're in Canada...you won't be seeing the sun for some time now...I say "Go for it..."
Right now I have the Mamiya 645 45mm lens without the hood...so far it's been okay but I'll be looking for something soon...

I have long hair. It acts as a sunshade. And people wonder why I get a haircut 3 times a year.

James Ravilious used them, even modified them. I saw a Leica shade recently that looked like they stole his idea. I'm not radical, never was, I use them if I can. But I have so many cameras (folders, P&S, and off beat lenses) that I can't find hoods for, that I just shoot and hope. Most of the time it is OK. But I got fooled last spring:

I read all the posts on this thread. Still scared to death to not use a hood. Just yesterday I dropped a lens on a concrete sidewalk. Small dent on the hood. Hate to think of what would have happened w/o a hood.

Well, in the case of my Canon 50mm f/1.2, the hood costs around $150.

it's for fun, yes.
and if some want to add something serious that's ok too.
to be honest, i started to think of not using lens shades when i opened a package that contained my domke 2 compartment insert for the f2 bag.
the compartments seem smaller than the 4 compartment i have and i wondered if i might have to make room by leaving the shades off.
