your favorite SLR

Haven't used many..... Pentax P3 in high school. Canon 20D later - gave fine pictures. But the Pen FV just feels nicer.
 
Like many others here, I can't resist the charm of the Olympus OM system. Specifically the OM2n that I have! So small and lovely to use. That huge viewfinder, the placement of the shutter speed ring and that legendary Zuiko glass.

That being said though, I secretly harbour a burning desire to try out an Olympus Pen F and a Hasselblad 500C/M. If only they weren't so darn expensive...
 
The Nikon FM, after a 30-year relationship. Even the OM-1 can´t beat it.

Pentax MX owned since new in 1979 and I recently found one of the original Zhou Bessa R half-cases, stamped with RFF on the bottom, is a great fit. I went through a few to find one that fitted well.

I also have a KX which is superb.
 
Interesting that hardly anyone is mentioning Canon. What about the AE-1 and A-1? I ask only because I have an AE-1 coming my way, to use with an FD tilt-shift I found on the semi-cheap.
 
My all time fav--Contax 137 MA. It's fast handling, has a bright, uncluttered viewfinder and runs forever on cheap AA batteries. Next in line, my Mamiya 645 with w/l finder. Finally, (don't laugh) my Topcon DM with 58 1.4. Massive and unbreakable!
 
for film, my SLRs are in the signature, for a long havent felt need to change them to anything. rather, change my job to something more interesting to get use of the cameras more 😀

for digital, its another story. perhaps FF Nikon one day 🙄
 
Having used a wide variety of brands from my first Pentax S2 in the late fifties I have at last settled with a very battered Nikon F from the early sixties. Other favourites have been several Pentax ME's and MX's, Nikon F2's and FE's. I mainly defer to Nikon because of the consistant lens quality but have never had a Leica SLR to compare them with.

Digital : D200 Very pleasant to use. Great quality feel, good IQ for me.
Film autofocus : Canon Eos 5 (sold), Eos 700 seldom used now but good workhorse when it was.
Manual focus : FE2 & FM2n with Nikon primes. Lovable oldies but goldies. Nikkormat FT2, Miranda Sensomet RE on the shelf. Used to have a late 60's Sensorex which I sold for my first autofocus, a Canon Eos 1000n.
In a nutshell. I'm very happy with my Nikons whether digital or film.
Oh, remember I had an Oly OM10 at some time too, and a Fujica AZ1.
 
when I first picked up the Nikon D300 I felt it was just too big and heavy compared to my D80. I love the D80's size/ergonomics but it has several quirks (being a focus and recompose type of person, focus-priority shutter release in non AF-C mode was a big one). Having now owned and used a D300, I've learned to love the weight, size, feel - it's the first digital SLR I owned where I thought it was capable of keeping up with what I wanted out of a camera. It does what I want, how I want, when I want. I love it.

I would gather that the D700/D700s(?) could possibly be all the SLR I could need - at least for a while.

Film cameras? I still have my Pentax ME Super and may still go out and grab a Nikon FE. I'd be elated if Nikon came out with something analogous - the D5000 is close.
 
All-time favorite, emotionally: Nikon F.
All-time best among mechanical cameras: Nikon F2 (a modified F).
Current favorite, functionally: Nikon F4.

If I had to keep just one, I'd have to say an F. If my life depended on me going into some really dangerous third-world country and coming out with one good picture, it would still be an F.
 
My all-time favorite camera is my Canon 1vHS, the best camera Canon ever made, although my 7D is running a very close 2nd. As far as manual cameras go, I absolutely love my Minolta XD-11 and XE-7. Both of those are a dream to use. I also have an FE that my Dad gave me a few years ago. I love using it and the more I use it, the more I love it. It's every bit as smooth as my XD-11. The original Canon F1 is also a wonderful camera that ranks high on my favorite list.
 
Film AF - Canon EOS 600/630 and RT - even today are great cameras.
Film Manual focus - Canon T90
Medium Format - Hassy and Kowa Six

Still have and use most of these
