Hi,
I got a couple of months ago a Zeiss Ikon ZM and I was wondering what flash could fit best to this camera. I would like it to be compact as well as portable for street photography. Another point is to be handled in hand, off the camera.
Thanx in advance!

If it is just for street, you don't really need a movable head. And if it is just for street you will want it to be compact. I see from the photos on the IN that the ZM has a hotshoe and a PC port. The Vivitar 2600 (hotshoe) is small but not so small that it doesn't have any power. It has 2 auto settings and, of course, manual. I have it and its brother (2800d) that is the same unit but with a movable head. There are many of these types of flashes but you might look at these. They are definitely budget items these days, ($20). As for handheld I use Buff CyberSnychs, the transmitter in the hotshoe and the receiver Velcro-ed to the flash. You will have to get a few other parts to retrofit your flash with this setup. You could also remotely trigger with Cactus V2 or V4 units from Ebay. One thing that seems good about buying flash units is if they say they flash they work. I have bought many on Ebay, some at rock bottom prices, and I have never had a failure.

for what it's worth I was just looking for a small flash for fill lighting.
I came across the SunPak PF20XD. It's designed as a boost/slave flash for digital cameras but it also has full manual control. The really good thing is that for such a small unit it has manual output control of 1/1, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16, 1/32 and with the diffuser in place you can lose another stop of output.
So from a GN 20 you can take it down to GN 2.5 which suits my purposes.
Definitely worth looking at. I've just ordered one.
