Hi everyone..

I've just purchased a used 90mm Summicron from KEH.. it's great and super sharp, but I've noticed it's aperture ring is a little on the loose side.. there is some play (the aperture ring can move up and down) and it goes maybe a quarter stop past the f/2 mark but clicks back into place if you try to do this.

Is this cause for concern, or do other 90 Cron users have a similar experience with their lenses?

Same with my 90mm Summicron-M pre-ASPH (E55). I also noticed some dust inside the lens and tiny air-bubbles but the lens performs excellent.

Good to know all, thanks very much for weighing in. I just wanted to know whether or not it was worth sending it back and getting another from somewhere else.. but if others have noticed this with their lenses then I think this lens is a keeper!

I also bought a E55 in keh this month, mine was a exc+ condition which has no problem at all, very clean and everything works fine, just the focus ring is a bit stiff, but to my experience, it will be silky smooth after 1 months of use.

But as some members said, the aperture ring is not the best among my other lenses, it feels a bit loose.

I love the photos from this lens, esp. after i compared it to my friend's Elmarit-M which is very sharp and clean.

FYI, the one i bought was listed as E49 version which is smaller and shorter a bit, but it happened to be e55 when i received it, s/n is correct as description, but e55 is very handy and light, and condition is like mint, so i keep it.

Mine has a magnificent aperture ring, it has a solid, metallic clunk and quality that I have never seen in another lens! Ok it is my only Leica lens...

I am astonished by its build quality.

Rant posted just to make sure people do not think this is an inherent problem with the lens 🙂

My most solid aperture ring is Noctilux E58. the feel of 90/2 aperture ring is quite similiar to my Summilux-M 35 ASPH.
