Dear All,
I am about to buy an M9. Later next year I will have the funds for more lenses, but for the moment I will start with just a 35mm. Which of the following 3 would you recommend. Both size and quality are important for me.
1. Used 7 element pre-asph Summicron (made in Canada 1984)
2. New Summarit
3. New Voigtlander Color Skopar Pan II Pancake
The Summicron and the Summarit are similarly priced. The Summicron and the Voigtlander, I believe, are similarly sized (I would really prefer a smaller lens for carrying around).
Please could somebody tell me which is likely to be the best quality allround lens. Your help is very much appreciated.

As I (and almost everybody else) said on LUF the Summarit is probably the best choice, if only for the coding. All other considerations are personal preferences.

If you have the budget for an M9, why not get the best 35 out there, the 35/1.4 ASPH ?

Summarit. Sharper, new, fully guaranteed, coded. And how much does 2/3 stop matter with an ISO 2500 max?

Totally agreed...
If you have the "best" (or most expensive) body and do not have the "best" lens, you may end up replacing for the "best" lens later.
But if you have to choose from the list, I would go with Summarit.

There's a 35mm Summarit on the Classified Ads
Edit: Oops, I've just checked it and the lens is already sold...

At this stage. If I were to have one 35mm lens. I'd go for the Zeiss Biogon.

Yea, that (sold) Summarit was priced for a really quick sale. From the list, I would go with the 35 Summarit too. It's such a great lens... sharp and compact, imho.

Agree Zeiss biogon the 2.8 or f2 are brilliant for its price. They draw differently from the leica. base on steve huff webbie. At this stage. If I were to have one 35mm lens. I'd go for the Zeiss Biogon.
