Good for a laugh: I received a comment on my flickr page from a user named "Sebastiao Salgado." I didn't pay much attention to the poster's name until after I read his comments. Then I glanced up at his avatar/portrait and thought, "Gee, that guy looks like...."

I wonder how people select their screen names and avatar pictures.

Sebastiao Salgado says:

Wonderful image, the focus and composition is truly sensational. But what do you think about my shot, hope you like it, any comments would be greatly appreciated from such an first-class photographer!

What do I think of his shot? I think it is very nice. I think he aspires to a high standard given his choice of screen names. Anyway, as my wife took the shot of me, she gets credit for any accolades from anyone named or pretending to be named Senhor Salgado.

I like to be modest, but being human, I do have to admit to enjoying praise from time to time. This, however, is just silly.

I believe, usernames like Sebastiao Salgado make me feeling much better than say, Adolf Hitler or Jack the Ripper. Sure, this is only game, though if someone admires great photographer, probably this may help him grow to the mark set by original owner of name? Like American Indians called themselves in names of strong animals and mighty manifestations of nature.

Now that's an interesting way to explain ourselves. I kind of like it.

Well, put, btgc.

I take all screen names with a grain of salt, even those that include a first and last name.

Seems like a play on this:

And, FYI: I am not, and never have been Cary Grant.

This was pretty funny only because those kind of comments are all over flickr.

I usually never post comments since I cant ever be sure of someones intent when they photograph something.

I agree with Rob here though , if you're naming yourself after famous photogs, you might want to have a clue of some sort.
