Hey all--
I'm a new M8 user and have been using Lightroom beta 3 since it was released for all my photo processing. (I'm a longtime LR user and will buy LR3 when it's officially available.) The Adobe Standard profile for M8 really stinks--at least using IR cut filters. The reds are pretty bleached out. The "Camera Standard" profile, on the other hand, is much nicer, though a bit on the dark side.
I'm curious what other profiles are out there. Whenever I google I find references to custom profiles, but all the conversations seem to be from 2007. I've found somebody's develop presets here, and will try them out tomorrow, but it's not the same as camera profiles...is there some hidden cache of custom profiles, for use with IR cut filters, that I don't know about?
Thanks

That would be great, thank you. How's it differ from the two standards?

) I too struggle with the available profiles in Lightroom. I use the Adobe Standard profile 90% of the time, and find myself using the "Camera Standard" profile in some occasions where the highlights are blown, and in most occasions when I intend to convert to monochrome (i.e. B&W), at which point I decide to either do the convertion in LR or actually save the Metadata info into the DNG file (but without the actual B&W conversion) and then use ACR (Adobe Camera Raw) in Photoshop CS4, where I convert to monochrome using other manual methods or plug-ins.
The longest road leaves me with those so-called "film-like" images from the M8.

There is no question, the mojo is there in the files. They are amazing. I really want the weather to change (15 degrees and snow DAILY for 10 days here) so I can go out and get some different kinds of shots to play around with.
I like to keep everything in Lightroom, personally...until printing, when I use Quadtone RIP (black and white only). I try not to spend too much time tweaking. A really good profile that got me halfway there for color pics would be great.

Thank you!!! It's a cinch to set a given profile as a default in LR, so if I like it, I can just use it automatically.
Damn, man, that clarity slider...it is a dangerous, dangerous drug. If you're not careful you end up making everything look like a cartoon strip and then rendering it to TIFF so you can push it even harder.
EDIT:
OK, just got to try this out...I think it's going to be perfect. It's as bright as the Adobe Standard but the colors are more vivid and there is better contrast...reds and skin tones look good. It's a better baseline for my photos than either of the other profiles...I really appreciate it!

Hi Double Negative, is it possible for you to put that back up just for short time? I'd like to download it too!
Thanks if possible, JP

Thanks a lot Double Negative. I am setting up all the pieces of the puzzle, waiting for the M8 to arrive.

Hi all,
why don't you give a try to DNG Profile Editor ? I did and it works fine (for me !)with ACR and LR 2,6 and LR3.

Please leave it up DN ...for a couple of days. Thansk, John
I just don't understand how profiles work. I see no mention of them in the manual and when I connect my M8, I don't see anyway to choose a profile. I'm new to LR3 and would appreciate an explanation. Thanks.

Thanks for sharing. I tried the profile but I must admit that I don't like the colour it produces for skin tones.

I only have LR2 so perhaps LR3 looks completely different? In LR2 I go in the development module. Within all the adjustment sliders at the bottom there is something called "camera calibration". Under camera calibration there is drop down box "profile" where you can choose a camera profile.
Thanks tom.

Can you upload your profile again? Like the others in this thread, I find the reds of Adobe Standard very weird (particularly bad with orange backgrounds becoming reddish) and the Camera Standard looking really dark.

Second that. I've never really played around with camera profiles as I tend to adjust on an image by image basis, but I 'd love to try out your Leica profile.

3rd that. I've also been using the "Camera Standard" profile in ACR. While I have no complaints, I'd like to try out different things. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the re-upload. I'll check it out.

Has anyone tried the LR3 Final ? The M8 DNG files seem to have much better profiles, and editing seems to preserve a lot more shadow detail than before. It gave me an option of "Do you want to view before/after to see changes after upgrade?".

Dear Double; I have run into this problem with Alien Skin2 and have seen this fix offered -- but how do you "run CS5 in 32-bit mode"?
