I have a 28mm and a few 50's. i wish i had a 35mm, 28mm is always just a little too wide for me. though the 50mm on the M3 is bliss.
 
50mm is by far my most favorite and usual focal length across the systems (80mm for 6x6 MF). For RF, I do like 35mm as well while 85mm is my second favorite after 50mm for SLR. I can see myself using only 35mm, 50mm, 90mm lenses for my entire life, but if I have to choose one, that will easily be 50mm.
 
For a few years, I've used only a 50mm lens, but I'm more and more comfortable with the 35mm. Well, obviously it depends on the subject and the location; for street photography in a city like Paris or London, I would rather go with a 50mm.
 
I use a 45 planar on g2 and 65mm on bronica rf645 and 38mm biogon on my 903swc...now i'm looking for a fuji gw690 90mm/3,5 lens that should be a 38mm equiv.SO I'M a 40 mm guy

Just got my M6 here from another RFF member, came with a 40mm Nokton. Plan on using it until I can afford a 50mm cron, or perhaps a Zeiss Sonnar, when they become available again.
 
I selected "50" as that is the one that I gravitate to about 90% of the time. In RF.

As I have about ten 50mm RF lenses (which comprises about 3/4 of my RF lens total), I think that sounds about right :D
 
I seem to favour 2 lenses more than the others :-

I use 35 and 85[/90], and I have used 28 and 135 also, but 50 is what I perceive as giving the most flexibility.
 
To accommodate various film formats and crop factors, I'll put it in terms of angle of view; I like the vicinity of 60 degrees. That would be a bit narrower than a 35mm lens's 63 deg and wider than 40mm lens's 56 degrees.

This would be a 75mm lens on 6x7, a 60mm on 645, or the 28mm on an M8, for instance, but either 35mm or 40mm would be quite acceptable for 35mm film. :)

My vote is for 40mm, I love my Nokton 40 1.4 and Pentax Pancake 40 2.8

Just like a fifty only a tad bit wider. Took allot of my better shots with them.

I'm wondering if there are people here who are happy with the Voigtlander 40 2.0 on SLR...

Yes, the Ultron is very nicely made, and electrically it's a "KA" series lens, convenient for later Pentax bodies. There's one cemented pair, in the rear three elements like a Planar, and the rearmost element has aspheric surfaces on both sides. I've had mine for 6 years, and it performs very well. Like the Pentax 43mm, it has a bit of barrel distortion if you look for it.

I really don't know. I like the 28 for candid stuff more than a 50, but, then again, the 50 was bought (or will be bought) for low light, at which I don't have a lot of experience with this -- YET --...
I use the camera on the hip technique with a 35 or 28. so, shyness is not an issue. But, with a 50, I must raise the camera to my face...here, I am a bit shy at close ranges.
