When I adjust my lens I set the focus to infinity and look through the lens via a modified split image ground glass. I set the lens wide open @ 3.5 and line up the image in the prizm (pole, straight line, etc.) I then adjusted the aperature to f8 and noticed the line was out of focus. Should you set the lens at the widest aperature f 3.5 or the smallest aperature f22?

I also test the lens at the feet markings etched on the rim to double check the infinty adjustment and noticed these can be sometimes off. Am I making this too complicated, because I can take up to 2 hours to measure and reset the infinity mark to make it right?

This is of course for adjusting my rangefinder folders.

Do you have a clear view of a distant horizon? Focus on an object at the horizon. The rangefinder, ground glass image in focus, should match with the infinity mark if all is well. This is, as you describe, best done at largest aperture.
