I am a Leica M8 and M4P in addition the a Nikon D300 when I don't mind carrying the extra weight. I am planning to pick up a more modern RF film body than the M4P. It will be either a good used M6TTL or M7, or a Zeiss Ikon body. There is no short supply of Leica bodies. Does anyone of know a a good source for very good used (E, E+ or mint) Zeiss Ikon body?.

The only place I'd bother to look would be on the classifieds here, especially if you're in the US. They turn up regularly, are described by people who've used them, and they're often at completely reasonable prices.

When, not if, but when I buy one, it'll be from this site's classifieds.

Second Biggle's advice. There are often excellent buys here (on ZMs and lots of other gear), and I've found the sellers here to be honest and reliable.

I bought mine on eBay, no problems at all. There is a lot of anti-eBay sentiment around, I've used it since 2001 and never had a problem.

Well, actually the Ikon did need it's range finder adjusted, but considering I paid around half what some dealers want for them, it still turned out hundreds of pounds cheaper.

When lucky you can even find brand new ZI really cheap on eBay. I did not to long ago.
I payed about 50% of the store price, for a black ZI. And accept for a small infinity misalignment, the camera is perfect.

When buying second hand , you should factor in the cost of the RF adjustement, unless you buy it here from a reputable person who can attest if the rf is OK. It is a great camera for the 35mm lenses in particular, and also great for travel and landscape, as it is lighter than the M7 and you do not need to fear shooting into the sun.

Assuming that I find a Zeiss Ikon Z that was made before the improved rangefinder accuracy, which I understand was a quality control problem corrected with s/n 1559xxx or so, once the adjustment is made on an earlier one, does it stay in adjustment as well as the Leica M's?
I've had the RF adjusted on both my M4P and M8 and they seem to stay in adjustment pretty well.

i would also like to know if it's stays once adjusted.

i've read somewhere that there was no improvements made in ZI rangefinder system (might by just a myth).

does anyone know how much it cost to have the camera adjusted by zeiss in oberkochen? and how much time they'll need?

See my reply today on the " Zeiss Ikon ZM Serial Numbers" thread concerning the very timely reply from Zeiss concerning this issue.

mfogiel, beautiful shot... thanks for sharing...

They are quite hard to find used, compared to Leica/Bessa...I guess they are far more scarce. Where I live hexars are even far more common...
