Looking for developers test on TMax400-2

Hi,


I am interested in T Max 400 (2) developed with Rodinal, Xtol, T Max and D76.


Has anyone made a test comparing the same scene with several developers?


I'm a test geek, but I don't have much time these next days...


Any link to a visual comparison (or written description) will be very helpful.

I forgot to mention I've been searching for days: here, photo.net, with google, apug, etc., but couldn't find any comparison...

I guess people shooting with it should have done it... Well, maybe I'll have to do it for myself as soon as I get the time...

I did some tests with Pyrocat HD, Rodinal, HC 110 and probably some other soups. Check on Flickr and tag Tmax 400-2 and also put the developer in the tag - i.e "Tmax 400-2 HC 110" and that usually works. It is a remarkable film - one of Kodak's best bl/w. Not as forgiving as Tri X - but grain is as good as and in some cases better than a 100 asa film. Also much improved tolerance for wider latitude of light from the original Tmax 400.

I've tried it in Tmax, D-76, and Rodinal. I like D-76 and Tmax best, I'm still deciding which I prefer. I have only done one roll in Rodinal, and the image had a nice sharp look to it but was too contrasty and I havent had time to test a shorter developing time yet.

Results in D-76 1+0 are favourable, I certainly like it a lot. So far I have found Delta 400 better for pushing to 1600 but I may need to work a bit more on it, or what I'll probably do is use Delta 400 for 1600 and T-Max 400 @ 400 when I need speed but less grain.

Just developed a roll in Xtol 1+1 and will let you know the outcome, I don't have frame to frame comparisons but here are a couple of TMY400-2's in D-76 1+0:







These are all 35mm. I've not shot TMY400-2 in 120 yet.

Impressions are that I like it a lot, although it'll probably stay second fiddle to Tri-X for me. But not by a massive amount.

Those three images show a superb tone! Even with my small screen it's obvious how well exposed and developed they were... Thanks a lot for sharing!

You made me go for it. Tomorrow I'll get some film and as I got Rodinal only, I'll test it for now: under the sun, in soft light, and pushed... I want to see how it compares to Tri-X...

Just started to get some Xtol 1+1 results back with TMY-2. I'll post more in a bit (must get to work!) but here's one Xtol 1+1 20deg C 9.5mins:

I think if you GOOGLE around a bit you will find Sandy King's results with TMY-2, D-76 1:1 and probably Pyrocat too. When the film was new Sandy tested 4x5 TMY-2 400 against TMX 100. D-76 1:1 for both. The condensed version of his testing: For 8x prints there was no difference in image quality between Tmax 400 and Tmax 100. The full article is in View Camera magazine.

I have limited experience with TMY-2 and Xtol 1:3. There is nothing about that combination to displease me. Not a scientific test. I am particular about my negatives.

I just finished my seventh development today... Six were TMax and one Tri-X, all of them in Rodinal, to find my TMax times for sun, overcast/shadow and pushing, and also to compare with the same scene both films in Rodinal for pushing. That one will be fun to check... Every scene -2, -1, N, +1, and +2.

Tired and bored, but very happy. Negatives look so sharp and clear, like APX100... Hope soon I get time for wet printing to set ASAs and times...

I forgot to mention that Sandy's speed for TMY-2 in D-76 1:1 was 400.
