I am considering a purchase of a used M7 or MP probably fly down to NYC for the day seems to be best selection of M7/MP .
Anything one would look for in buying a used M also any dealings with BH Photo; Kurland or Village Photo.
I am considering a .58 or .72 VF to use with 35 Cron and 50 Lux I will likely add a 21mm or 24mm lens in the future.

Thanks

Photo village is very good. I would give Ken Hansen a call. He always has some nice gear for very fair price and he is a leica authorized dealer.

Toronto the 8.875% is still cheaper than UPS shipping and brokerage as well added to the PST GST in Canadian tax.

+1 on Photo Village although their prices are a bit high, IMO. I reckon the rent can't be cheap there, just above the Flatiron District. Last time I was there they had three nice used black paint MP's. They have always had an impressive selection of lenses as well. I just find the prices off-putting. I kept thinking to myself I'd be better off just buying new. Now if they had KEH prices I'd be one broke bloke!

I've never really done any RF recon at B&H though I've spent lots of time (and money) there in all other areas. Their used area is fairly modest. I bought a Zeiss 50/1.4 for my RTS III in person and it was pleasant enough. All the other used (or refurb) stuff I bought from them was through the mail.

I haven't dealt with Ken Hansen yet but have heard nothing but great things. Apart from Photo Village there don't seem to be many stores with much RF inventory, especially on display. It's a shame our sellers don't share the same enthusiasm about RF as Tokyo does.

in no particular order kurland, hansen, b&h, adorama, photo village are all good.

willoughby's is also a leica dealer.

30 years ago, olden might have been worth a visit, but their time has past.
as with many classic camera stores, ruined by horrible management and the internet.

I really LOVE the service of Stan Tamarkin @ 'Tamarkin'
though they moved out of NYC
and are in Conn. / though you now save on No sales Tax !!!

You can go there or EASIER speak with Stan & then order online

Yes Adorama . Photo Village very Good as well
but Stan is the Man !

I'll second Tamarkin. I spoke with Stan before Christmas and picked up an M6 classic. Nice selection, fair price and all around nice guy.

Be sure to check out Fotocare on 22nd between 5th and 6th. They sell to pros mostly, but they are great guys and will talk to anyone (meaning me.) Seriously, I cannot recommend their customer service enough. I've bought several cameras from them. They sell Leica new and used, plus all the other pro equipment. I was just in there the other day, and they have a number of used Leica bodies. I don't know if any of them are M7's, so call and check.

I found that it is much appreciated and that I get much better service by doing my homework and gathering info online before making an appearance to look at the gear in person. This also helps me make better decisions in buying used gear because I'm less overloaded with information.

Also it is good to hand the salesperson a slip of paper with the stock/item number. Sometimes they are surprised and unaware they have an item in stock. At other times they could not find the item in their database. I learned this by pulling out a printout that I made off their websites. Seems like their are a lot of holes in the crossover of databases. Other times there was a differance in price, and I always recieved the lower price. Think of it as you helping the salesman help you. A few times I found a deal that might not be available to someone less thorough.

Earlier this week, at Adorama, the salesman dropped the price on a camera I was buying, without my asking, so he could extend my warrenty to one full year instead of 90 days. Whenever I made the extra effort, I have been rewarded by extended service. I've also had similar results at B&H.

Another vote for Photo Village. Wonderful folks to deal with. I ordered my a la carte through them, and have made two other body purchases from them.

I've bought lenses from Kurland on Broadway (same bldg as the Leica Gallery.) Can't speak +/- to their pricing, but very professional.
