Now that I've been using my Canon 7 long enough that I know I like it and will continue to shoot with it, I'm becoming interested in either purchasing a grip to fit the camera (if available) or fabricating one (if not available). I'm often moving quickly and anything that will let me get a better hold on the camera would be a good thing.
Are there any grips available specifically made to fit the 7? Either current or made some time in the past is fine.
Alternatively, are there grips out there that, while not made for it, will fit the 7?
Thanks!

Grips are a more modern invention. There was no such device for any Canon rangefinder cameras.

Well, that narrows my search down, at least. What modern grips might fit?

That's really me
The old GMP grips fit later Canon rangefinders very well. They pop up on the classifieds from time to time.

I'll see about picking one of those up. It looks like a good starting point, at very least, and something that could easily be modified down the road or used as a departure point for a grip of my own fabrication.

You could try and find a Canon Camera Holder Model L, it's not strictly a grip but it does the job. It does add considerable weight to already heavy camera.

Why yes Ma'am - it folds
In the past I've used the GMP grip on a Canon with no problems - it fit perfectly. The M series tripod socket is in the same location as on the Canon 7. You'll need to get the version that doesn't run the full length of the base plate. There are several on Ebay such as this one:

Here is one in Chrome at B&H. I used one on a Canon 7 quite awhile ago.
B&H bought the last of them from PhotoEquip and they are new, but listed in the Used section.
