What will Kodak's final film be?

With the cancellation of Tri-X 320 in 120 format, it got me thinking... Kodak will keep canceling films, one by one, until they only have a single one left.

I missed something.

What makes you think that? It won't be anything like a simple countdown song, they'll pull the plug whenever they feel there's not enough profit in it anymore. Waaaay before the 'one film' moment.

Just ordered for EUR 260 in 120 format film, I'm puttin' in mine, how 'bout the rest here?

Crap. I like that film, and I bet they ceased production a while ago. (Actually, I can live without it, but they do not seem to be making TX in sheet films)

Due to significantly decreased sales volumes, Kodak is retiring two medium-format KODAK PROFESSIONAL TRI-X 320 Films.

I find it difficult to understand how or why - what is basically the same thread - keeps reappearing with such monotonous regularity. Yes - a slightly different title, and initial viewpoint, but it always boils down to 'how long will it last' and 'rather than use digital - I'll kill myself'...et cetera..et-bloody-cetera! every week, and the same old band of stalwarts - trot out the same old lengthy speeches, with such certainty that I could almost quote them down at the pub!....anyway - Sunday morning rant over!....I feel a lot better, and shall go out in search of the decisive moment, now - film or digital?...mmm - better save the film if it's dieing!....Christ! - I'm doing it now! :bang:

Dear Keith,

Well, yes. What do you expect? The same applies to every other manufacturer as well. Why make stuff people don't buy? And why provide two fairly similar films, one at a loss, when you can sell one film at a profit?

As has already been pointed out, TX320 is inferior in most ways to TX400, and it was never anything like as widely used. It seems a reasonable assumption that most TX320 users will switch to TX400 rather than giving up photography, thereby increasing demand for TX400.

This thread astonishes me. One minor emulsion is dropped, and suddenly it's the end of film all over again!

"Ilford" was all for stopping the production and sell of film and its only thanks to the folks who started Harman Technology LTD and created "Ilford Photo" That Ilford film is still being produced and sold.

Give the choice I'm sure there are people in Kodak Film division that would do or at least try to do the same thing.
