I sold recently on RFF and remoeved selling price as well once sold.
To me it's decency, since I am pretty sure some of my buyers will appreciate the 'privacy' it gets them when buying. It's more discrete.
I reckon, if anyone sees a completed sale and truly wants to know the selling price, they can contact the buyer and sharing the price will then be buyers decision.
One wouldn't put up the price one sold the house or the car for with the 'Sold' sign either, right?

What's to stop a seller from removing the ENTIRE ad, not just the price? Why clog up the classifieds with things that are already sold???? I don't see this as a big problem one way or the other.

Playing games isn't what the intention is.
You might be right on the perils with real estate value. In my country houses sometimes change owner several times a day and each time they are sold at a higher price, so mortgages for too much money can be taken out on them. Once the mortgage doesn't get paid anymore and the bank moves in to foreclose, the house turns out to be of far less value. However, practices like this are a rarity.
In general, discretion is the motive. Not even real estate agents will disclose the selling price before consulting the new owner.

I often leave the ad online, at least until the item is in the mail. Sometimes even until it is received. Buyers can check the item condition against the photos in the ad, and they have something to look at when their most recent GAS purchase is in the mail!

Yeah I forgot about that. Makes it easy to leave feedback if the ad is still online.

Hmmm I have five minutes spare, think I'll just go over to RFF and see if anyone's looked at my suggestion. I doubt it, no-one ever looks at the WHAT THE F%^#!!!!!! 😱

Phew - right, let's get a few things straight:
(1) I never said people should post the actual price an item sold for - I was just commenting the systematic removal of the asking price. Sellers are obviously allowed to make whatever deals they like.
(2) I never ever know who the hell bought an item anyway - what the heck is this idea about preserving the privacy of the buyer? Anyone else know who buys stuff on this forum, unless they say so themselves?
(3) The forum is a source of information for many of us that we feel we can trust, and I've formerly felt that the consensus is that we all trust each other here, and cooperate in that spirit. I'm sorry to see it apparently replaced by the paranoia we see increasing everywhere in our society ("HEY BUD!! WADDYA POINTING THAT CAMERA AT? SEE THE SIGN THAT SAYS PRIVATE PROPERTY! GEDDOUTTA HERE!")
(4) People do get stung by selling too low or buying too high, because real information about prices is known to a minority. The bay is no replacement for knowledge that's very hard to come by, for the uninitiated. I think it's only fair that the playing-field is even on this forum - I'd hate to see the sharks come swarming in.

Fair points however if I've paid for the ad then it's my decision within the rules of the forum how to edit it.

If someone wants to know the value of something to other members here, all you have to do is ask. The members here are always helping others with advise on gear, technique etc and pricing is just another topic.
In fact I will start the ball with ' HOW MUCH IS A BEATER M4 THAT WORKS FINE WORTH'?
when I figure it out an ad will go up and yes, once sold the asking price will be removed so if anyone wants to take note then do so before it sells!
