Careful Mate. This is a public forum. Many viewers that are not card carrying ethical RFF members can see this and run up your numbers. That said I wish you the best of luck. It looks like a really nice ride.

Not priced low anymore. Well, "priced low" is relative, I suppose.
As of 4:15 p.m., Feb. 9, it's at $900+.

Not my auction. Shopgoodwill is the auction site for items that have been donated at all the stores nationwide. This camera was a donated item in Los Angeles Goodwill. The money from the auctions goes to Goodwill. So if it gets run up, it's for a good cause I suspect.
The auction was at $904 when I found it today.

Why would someone pay 904 bucks for an S (?) in not very good shape, is there something special about the serial number or something?

It didn't take long for word to spread, hey?
Isn't the lens worth about half of the current price?

Thanks Kiu, I thought it was something like that.

Goodwill auctions used to be a nice place to find some vintage cameras at reasonable prices. Unfortunately the prices there are now through the roof, and I'm not sure why - ending prices much higher than eBay. Maybe it's the good will of the buyers, or a tax deduction thing (or both) - not sure.

There is no tax deduction for buying. I bought a few things off the site a year or so ago, just shelf cameras like an Argus and B&H photon. You get just what you expect from a Goodwill store. I too am amazed as the items (lots of Leica stuff) given and what they sell for. You can buy it cheaper here or on eBay and at least have some level of confidence. I love watching the auctions though to see what people will bid.Goodwill auctions used to be a nice place to find some vintage cameras at reasonable prices. But I understand your point, I think. The M is valuable for a collector and is not a great user. Thus the one on eBay probably doesn't have much collector value (due to the refurbishment) and is on the high side for a user (compared to an S)?

Fred wlll know far better than I, but an S2 at the price they currently fetch, around $500 with a lens, is terrific value, especially when you think the same lens in LTM can fetch the same price - without a camera attached to it.

You know, maybe it's because I don't own an S2, but my S, for my purposes, is the most solid, "bulletproof" camera I own, and for some reason, the rangefinder patch is the most contrasty and bright of any rangefinder camera I own, by a mile. And I own more than 50 rangefinder cameras. Plus I was able to get one in near mint condition (after a $100 CLA by Eddy Smolov) for under $250... Try and do that with any other Nikon rangefinder and you'll never do it. I am so happy with my S as a user that I don't need to search out an S2 or any other high priced model. I have more money to eventually add a few more lenses.
So don't dismiss the S without giving it some thought.
