Where new Coolscan 9000 can be purchased

I just grabbed one for half the going eBay/shop prices (including glass holder) off Craigslist. It might be worth keeping an eye out in there.

I'm in love with it.

Unfortunately they're out of production, and Nikon doesn't seem to have any more to ship. Anywhere you find one will have to have had it in stock for awhile. I think Morback has the right idea, you're going to have a much easier time finding a used one through private sellers, craigslist, ebay, whatever.

The V and 5000 are listed in Nikon's discontinued products list (link here), but the 9000 is still listed as a current product on Nikon's website (link here), so its not discontinued (yet!).

9000ED in BH are temporarily unavailable.

I ordered a new one from amazon for $2200 that would ship in one or two months after ordering:
http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-Super-C...1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1265236516&sr=8-1

Mine should ship between Feb.5 to Feb.26.
I have already been waiting for about one month!!!

If you need a one right now, there is a one about $2700:
http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-Super-C...PB5T4N73S&s=electronics&qid=1265236844&sr=1-1

Or you can consider ebay, the price should approximate $2000-$2500.
I once saw a used 9000 ED which only cost $1500!!!
And I missed it!!! Oh my god!!!> <

I guess I was lucky then - I got one back in December... or was it November.. - from B&H - I kept watching and the first time one popped up as "In Stock" I nabbed it.

Must be one of the last ones if they're truly not being made anymore.

Hope you find one!!

Cheers,
dave

These are going for $2800 or so on ebay. Best to get in line with a dealer and wait, or pay more for quick availability.

Does the Nikon scan software work on Snow Leopard?

Do you recommend using the scanner with third party software?

I picked one up at Adorama after waiting for about two months. It arrived about five months ago. It was listed as available on the Nikon site. They are making and releasing them in batches, as if they wait for a threshold number of orders and then produce a run and then shut the production line until they have another quantity. So, they are available, but you need to get on a waiting list.

If the 5000 is any indication, i would recommend Vuescan for Leopard or Snow Leopard. The Nikon software does have some nice features but is so buggy on my Mac. I cannot have anything else running, just the s/w - even opening a Finder window can crash it sometimes. I shut off the screensaver and set all the energy saver settings to off (always on, no sleep etc).

That said some here have had perfect luck, I did at first when I installed it but slowly it began to act up. I bought Vuescan to scan all my B/W it's faster and the output looks better, I use Nikon Scan for slides only (GEM, ROC etc).

Actually, I found that Nikon Scan worked reasonably well on 10.6.1, but there's a part of the install where it will seem to hang. You'll have to force-quit, but the software you need will have been installed.

Since the Microtek software for my M1 didn't work with 10.6, I contacted Silverfast about a bundle price for both scanners, and they offered it to me at a good price, so I went with that. I tried Vuescan but never liked it.

Popeye and Drew, thanks for the information. I’m extremely tempted to jump on this and buy one. I’m extremely unlikely to be giving up film anytime soon and the availability off good scanners in the future could be a problem.

I’ve used VueScan and Silverfast in the past with my V700 and I liked neither . I guess I’d just have to put in the effort to learn the new software.

I'm using it with Nikon Scan 4. I have absolutely no problems whatsoever (multitasking, different windows, ect...) running it on an early MBP with Snow Leopard.

Great software.

Re availability, both Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk have the scanner showing as available.

U.S. site shows availability as 1-2 months, U.K. site shows availability as 2-3 days.
