eta: Sorry Keith, I'm an inept internetter. Can you help me out with a link to whom you are referring? 1: gotta be from Detroit, 2) must have been active during the reign of Detroit automotive supremacy, 3) must have had a hit from 1957-1965 (the pre-Beatles reign {I actually saw the Beatles, in Detroit, in 1966} - that was the defacto end of motown, as a 'sound') and 3) must be African American. Us White kids just don't count.

Well, lets hope it. What with Kodak and its rather volatile penny stock status, I would not be surprised to see somebody attempt games over its stock value through online hype or badmouthing, and a reputable photo forum like this would be a natural platform. It would not be the first time that people have manipulated stock values through blogs, online forums etc., both on their own (day trader) behalf and acting as agents for some third party.

There is another member here who often has something to say about Kodak, and film in general. I always suspect that he's really Pickett's dad.

... or not. The original discontinuation notice was withdrawn and a statement issued that the film would be continued until further notice thanks to its popularity. YMMV as to when "further notice" may be, and in what formats it will be made - right now, 800Z in 120 is available at my local shop and several German online dealers, but the Fujilab UK online store (whose product portfolio however is shifting more and more towards 135 only) does not offer it.

Seal has been a member here for a while for those who aren't aware.

I'm not a huge fan of his music, it's a little seamless for me but he comes across as an OK person ... for a celeb! 😛

He seems to get his buttons pushed when he visits here though ... must be why we don't see him too often! 😀

OK.... it is ok to get worked up by somebody who does not agree with you, but believing that Kodak will get in trouble because there is a guy who does not shoot color film and could not care less if kodak puts a new color film on the market.... I think not
 
Are anybody sure it will be a film? and why do everybody believe it is a color film?

I assume it will be either Ektar 400 or an improved version of Portra 160 NC / VC (NC-3, VC-3), because at 400 speed we have already the NC-3, VC-3 version (introduced in 2008).
I guess the "vision 3 " technology which was implemented in Ektar 100 will now be implemented in other films, too.

I don't know about our two special users. But a general phenomenon across different sites, where users hijack every possible thread to turn it into a diatribe against one particular manufacturer, would be at least suspicious. Our brats may just as well be venting personal anger about the loss of their favourite film or be on a self-justification trip regarding their M9 purchase. But if the same happens, with different aliases and supposedly no common identity, at other sites as well, I begin to smell a dog.

Chris, that's not my website I'm afraid. Never been to Massachusetts.

Now, an Ektar 100 for 4x5 makes sense. Most LF folks shoot film, no real competition with digital in that format. And Kodak has said in the past that the bulk of their film sales now is large format. Great idea, actually.

Film like Tri X and Tmax 2-400 are relatively simple to make and really need minimum advertising and marketing costs as they are almost "generic" black white films.
The new Ektar 100 is outstanding and a higher speed version of it would be nice - though I am not a colorshooter as such. Now, a true 1600 speed Tmax 2-1600 with the grain of a 400 asa and the qualities of the Tmax 2-400 as to contrast and exposure latitude - that would be something.
Kodak, Ilford and Fuji screwed up a bit with the hype on the T-speed, the Delta 3200 and the Fuji 1600. All of these films are good, but usually around 1000-1200. Advertising hype pushed it up to get us to buy it. We did, we shot it, we tried to print it - and, at least in my case - gave up on it. I kept using Neopan 1600 - but rating it at 1000 and it works quite well - so why not call it NP 1000 instead!
As for the "death" of TX 320 - It was not a film that used a lot off (still have a couple of Pro Packs in the freezer (15+ years old) so it was not a big shock to me. The death of 220 is another thing. My Bessa III can use 220 and 20 exp of 6x7 is better than having to reload after 10!!!
Last year I heard a rumor in Japan that Fuji was considering Acros 100 in 220 (makes sense as the Bessa III/Fuji 67 has the cabability). Now that but would be something!

Thanks Tom for finally bringing something worth reading to this thread. Facts, not fiction or unbased opinion!

Let's just hope the new film will be an asset to the current diversity. If they ever decide to pull the plug on this new film and it was any good, my fridge will be stocked and it will keep me in business for a longer time.

Anything else is speculation at the moment, time will tell.

Most likely your own little day trading gamble, trying to score a fast $2000 profit on a option for 10k Kodak shares...

Beyond that, Vultures Inc. Greedy&Greedy Investments, Rochester Real Estate Development Co., or something like that, if any - Kodak almost certainly has no competitor (whether digital or analogue) with any interest in it turning bearish, but some rogue PE's might.

I'm not saying that you are, but things like that have happened frequently enough that even relatively slowly moving boards like the SEC and its international equivalents have branches monitoring online publicity to detect manipulation attempts.

Yeah, I can see where that would move Kodak stock. Go to a internet bulletin board with a few hundred active posters, talk up the declining sales of film, and force Kodak's stock prices down (or up...I'm just saying). I love conspiracy theories.

Fuji making ACROS in 220 ? ... That would be interesting indeed since they have announced stopping Neopan 400PR in 120 from March this year (and a couple of sheet films, mostly color-slide stuff).

If you go to a few dozen boards and badmouth a company there, things do start to move - the more so if the company has a poor PR and investors relations department, and has $2 stock where a few pennies already sum up to a few percent. It is not the few hundred users - it is more that you can fill much of the top findings in Google with negative statements by canvassing all over reputable bulletin boards...

Sevo, what ever moves EK's stock price has little to do with its film business and much to do with how well it is growing its digital business. You have to remember that Kodak has repeatedly stated that it sees its own future as a digital company. And it has spent billions of dollars in pursuit of that goal. This is not my perverse imagination. EK has been very clear about this.

EK got some one time infusions of cash from property rights settlements that have made the company look better to some investors. When you strip those out, things are not as rosy. The biggest problem looking forward is that the one time infusion sets a bar that makes similar performance in 2011 harder for the company to reach. Those several hundred million dollars won't be added again to EK's bottom line, which will create a real hurdle for investors in the future.

That's fair, and I think I fairly assume this to be in response to my post. Even if it isn't, I'm guilty. I apologize to everyone, and to Mr. Wilson for my rudeness. Things may be said with *far* more grace than I have the talent to deliver.

On the other hand, is a person required to stay their input until they can deliver something that satisfies all parties? It seems to me that precludes any dissent. And dissent is what drives people to sort out what it right and what is wrong, rather than accede to whoever speaks loudest and most often. I'm not the only one who sees a pattern to Picket Wilson posts.

That does not excuse my rudeness. Tact is ever my failing.
