Yes the R8 looks "different" but as long as it works, and it does have a spotmeter.
The Kodak BW400CN is waiting in the fridge, that or a Delta 400 would be the film for the testing.

1) if you were referring to this specific picture, it was taken at 400 iso 1/60 F/5.6
2) if you were referring to the iso 1600 that such FM3a takes, here is a sample..
Manually focused, with 200 F/4 AIS 1/250s F/8 or so BW400CN up to 1600 iso.

I like it.
Maybe it's not properly the best for portraits (or at least I'm not enough skilled for such lens to get nice ones) but overall the biggest problem might be focusing before the shot not complaining while looking the result later

It certainly is possible to use an FM3A screen (three types to choose from) in any of the FE or FM series Nikons (even the original FM if you're prepared to do some disassembling).

could you please describe the procedure for replacing the screen in an FM? I`ve got a beautifully brassed one I love a lot, but the viewfinder is a little dim compared to my F3 or FE2.

(to me the FM its the classic of the Fm/FE series, mechanical shutter, well build, no-nonsense. I was looking for a FM2, for the brighter finder, but even here the prices are risen to the extremes...)

You are probably better off picking up an FM2 rather than replacing the screen on the FM. The FM, like the Nikkormats, can have the screen replaced if you tear down the camera. It comes out from the top. This is easy on a Kodak Retina Reflex. Not as easy on a Nikon FM, but a repairshop could do it. The FE was the first Nikon to replace screens from the bottom.

Nice shot Dino. I'm really enjoying my FM3a but am coming dangerously close to replacing it with an F6. I've shot 35mm since 1998 on 2 cameras - a Minolta X700 and my FM3a but: (a) I've never bought a new 35mm camera and some spare cash is burning a hole in my pocket; and (b) I've never shot autofocus or had a camera with matrix metering.

Any of you FM/FE shooters out there also shoot any autofocus bodies?

Well ... a month or so on and I haven't really bonded with my FM3A quite yet!

I did buy some new batteries for it today though as the other night I was looking through the viewfinder and the meter was behaving very strangely and only staying on for a second or two ... then the penny dropped! 😀

I want my OM-1's viewfinder in the Nikon ... THAT would be the 'purrrfect' camera IMO! 🙂
