Film At PMA 2010
I always make it a point to look at what’s going on with film at PMA. This year I met with Kodak and stopped by the Freestyle Photo booth to check out their toy cameras and other film and darkroom products. A couple days after the show I followed up with a visit to the Freestyle store in Hollywood (watch for that story). The bottom line is that the film market is shrinking and film is becoming more of a specialty item. Kodak and Fujifilm have to be choosy about what film products they continue to make and they’ve both had to let some emulsions go. But that doesn’t mean film is dying – on the contrary. After talking to Scott and the Freestyle folks, I’m more convinced than ever that analog photography is here to stay. It’s just become a niche market now, catering to students, fine art photographers and select professionals who prefer the simpler workflow of film or who have customers how request it.

After all Vinyl is still with us 30 years after the launch of the CD.

That's really me
Fun story to read. There's only one picture so it might not show everything but its interesting to see what Fuji had on their display table. I saw their medium format camera, some 120 slide film, 4x5 slide film and 4x5 Acros.
Let's hold off the doomsday reports and namecalling till at least page two.

I am very happy film stays, as I have not sold almost any single film camera, nor dismantled my dusty darkroom. But we have been discussing it for over many years already and questioning it again starts to sound me somewhat boring.
Without offense to this thread, just to remind ourselves how long we are chewing the same gum.
The report, however, of great interest for me and those who cannot assist.
Cheers,
Ruben

…..so what you’re telling me is; I still have a chance of one day buying a ¾ size zeiss ikon zm with near silent motor film advance and a simple uncluttered VF with three (28, 35, 50mm) sets of frame lines?

No offence taken Ruben.
The raft of digital vs film threads or the we are all going to die type stuff does get a little boring after a while.
Vinyl is still with us, a niche market for sure but it's still available. It will be the same for film, the choices off emulsion might be a bit limited but it'll still be available in 20 or 30 years time. I know this for sure as God told me so last night.
