My Leica IIIc has an intriguing little part which must serve some function, but darned if I can figure it out. Directly under the shutter-speed knob is an engrave plate which almost encircles the base, and has numbers engraved in an arc on it, running 2, 4, 6, etc. Can anyone tell me what it is for???
Thanks to all who reply.
With best regards.

It's the position for the adjustable flash delay dial, but does a IIIC have a flash-synch ? A pic would be handy.
Edit: That's for flash bulbs of course, not the new-fangled electronic stuff

If it's a black dial (numbers in black paint) then you set it to the number 2 for electronic flash..

Sorry for the confusion; the camera is a IIIc/f conversion...
