i have a blackberry now but was looking at iphones on a webstore...and they look like great fun and very useful too.

the last thing i use a cell for is actually talking - i hate talking on the phone, have no land line (not for many years). i got a blackberry so i could get my emails on it.

the iphone looks to be a great toy, music, the net, touch screen, voice control (and i do like the sound of my own voice).
the 3gs models are the latest i believe and not too expensive.

what do you use?
have you tried one and then the other?

comments?

I've had an iPhone 2G and now a 3G. I love it. I also help support an office with 50 attorneys, each armed with a Blackberry (not my choice). I'd much rather use my iPhone than any of their Blackberries.

For me, coverage has a big part of it... In my area, AT&T isn't the best in terms of coverage, so BlackBerry on Verizon wins for that... although the iPhone has some pretty cool apps. If they ever get iPhones for Verizon, I would be one of the first in line.

I got a crack-berry two years ago now and as a phone I hated it. Browsing was ok (note lower case) but as a phone it SUCKED. Perhaps I should be more clear. I went out an purchased a used phone on Evil Bay and it works better.

My son has an iTouch (no phone only WIFI) and loves it, wants the iPhone but I say no (he does not have a job so no still works there at least).

Even if you do not use it for service I would check the carrier up your way to see how they are at home and around town. Down here in the states AT&T is a bit over loaded and will be for a while. Rumor has it that T-Mobile might be the 2nd carrier to be added down here but it might as well be V or Spit for all I care, just give us an option.

There is a big difference in the new Crack-berries with respect to phone quality but not having one I'm not sure.

If I had to get one with my own money it would be an iPhone. As a friend said to me "It's the apps stupid!", and I think he's right.

I have been using a Blackberry for the past two years, but there is definitely an iphone in my future. For web surfing, the Blackberry seems primitive. It takes too long to load, and much of a website shows up as unintelligible code you have to click on--then it takes even more time to load that. And there is nothing cheap about the monthly bill. Apple technology rules! (as he types this from his iMac.)

I should say that on the plus side, my Blackberry Curve is excellent as a phone, both for sound and connectivity. It's on the Edge network, whatever that is.

My Mother had a blackberry storm, and in comparison to the iphone it was un-intuitive, poorly made, with a poor OS and pretty much damn near prehistoric.

I've had my 2g iphone since introduction and it's been nothing but a pleasure.

iPhone images are tagged with gps data. I use it to find out afterwards where I have been photographing, and how to get back there to get a better shot.
I will also admit to have bought a whole slew of camera bits on ebay right off the phone.

I've been using an older BlackBerry Curve for a few weeks now and I like it well enough to want a newer model with WiFi as well as GPS through Google Maps. The iPhone looks fun but other than the low megapixel camera on this thing and the WiFi thing, I doubt I'd want much more out of a phone. The sound is good enough for playing music and MyTube videos come in nice and clear for the most part, on a three bars signal. When I use Opera Mini, it really slows down but the native browser, Yahoo and Google are quite fast so I'm thinking of deleting Opera altogether until the network improves.

I also think the BlackBerry is more suitable for carrying rough in a pocket or crowded bag than the larger screen iPhone would be, at least for me.

I'm on 'the edge' network too, whatever that means, and I'm willing for the moment to stick it out with AT&T. I'm on an older plan and it turns out I'm probably better off not getting a new contract for the unlimited wireless and 1500 messages a month I'm getting now. That and 5530 rollover minutes will keep me here for awhile I think.

Anyone ditching a newer BlackBerry for an Apple should feel free to send it on to me, where, at least for now, they still have a 'neat factor' that stands them apart from the iPhone.

PS, CNNY, the BlackBerry pics can also be enable with gps data if you choose.

I've had a Blackberry through work and many of my friends have various types of smart phones. For my money, the iPhone is the best smart phone on the market. I am not typically an Apple fan; I get in heated debates every time a friend tells me they want to buy a Mac. Apple hit a home run with the iPhone; it's just so intuitive and easy to use and has tons of very useful apps. I've honestly never cared for smart phones but when my Verizon contract ended in February I bought the iPhone on a whim and haven't looked back.

my carrier would remain the same with an iphone and they have been good.
i use a macbook and hope to get an ipad in the future so it seems natural to get an iphone.

The missus and I have been blackberry users since 2002. It's likely we'll add the iPhone to our gadget box as soon as they're released from the grips of AT&T. But for sheer speed, nothing really compares to the tactile thumb board of the blackberry. Typing up dozens of 200-word emails seems like it could be cumbersome on a virtual keyboard. Voice quality on the BB is average at best.

my wife and i have sprint and use blackberries. we would have iphones, but AT&T has a big black hole in our neighborhood, so we can't get service here. in fact, two of my neighbors(stock market types who have to answer their phones) have iphones but also keep blackberries for use at home.
if sprint ever offers iphones, i would definitely buy a couple.
