Don't really want to spend too much money for new toys this year, but wanted to get a 35 + 90 combo for awhile. Recently brought two old school lens from craiglist for about $650 each. Not Leica glass but pretty happy with the result.

That's really me
You can get both a 35 and 90 for less than $650. If you shop right they can be Leica glass too.

For 650$, I would get either canon 35/2 or rokkor 40/2 and the cv 90/3.5 (sharpest 90mm I have used btw).
Whatever you got, enjoy and post some more pictures.

I brought my first summicron 35 PreASPH used for around 700, but that was at least 3-4 years ago. Got summilux ASPH for $2299 Brand new in Hong Kong 2006 right before the major increase in euro. Both of them are great performer, but I sold them last year. Simply because the heart told me too expensive to keep. Since last year, I have brought few awesome movie lens and converted them into M lens. Here is another example of my new toy.

What other 90mm lenses have you used, I wonder? Reason I ask - there are so many lenses out there in 90mm range (80-105) that are better IMO than CV 90. I did have it a while back, and while it's sharp - it was not my favorite lens at all.
As far as what else can one get for under $650 in 35mm and 90mm range - lots of things - Ultron 35/1.7 and Canon 100/3.5 or Canon 100/2, or CV 35/2.5 and Jupiter-9 or to go really cheap - both russian 35/2.8 (Biogon copy) and J-9 would be under $200 and both can deliver great results if you get a good one.
To OP - nice shots, but I'm not too crazy about bokeh in the first shot - too swirly for me! Can you post photo of the lenses you used?

I'm not saying you're wrong; I'm just interested in the ways in which you reckon the other lenses are better than the Voigtländer. I currently have the last pre-aspheric Summicron and the Voigtländer (both from new) and a Thambar, and have tried/owned several others including the current Summarit, Elmar 90/4 (old and new), first generation Summicron, 90/2.8 and of course the inevitable 85/2 Jupiter. I'm quite impressed by the Voigtländer.
Cheers,

I am not too crazy about bokeh either, but detail and resolution on print are important to me. Leica lens are second to none in term building qualty, that's the main reason I own them. But I do find some inexpensive non-leica optic that produce absolutely fantastic resolution and color retention. My favourite is cooke, but they are out of my league, getting very hard to find these days.
The new toys I got is schneider 35 f2.8 and ross 90 f3.5, no question that they are not as good as cooke, but when I test on their resolution, they are pretty closed to my Leica glass.

I have used quite many to be honest. From the cheapest leica, minolta 90/4 to more expensive elmarit-M 90 latest, all 90mm summicron (except APO), canon 100/2, nikon 85/2, 85/1.5, and so on.
The CV 90/3.5 was very impressive in all aspects (sharpness, bokeh, cost...). The first shot I took with the M8 totally blown me away.
