Hi fellow RFF-members,

first, a quick introduction. For the past years I've been using Canon SLR (film at first, later a 5D). After some time I discovered that using zoom-lenses made me 'lazy', so I switched to primes. That worked out well and some time later I wondered if the rangefinder-concept would also suit me. And since a digital RF is too expensive, I opted for an old Canon RF. I've been lurking on RFF for quite some time, but a few weeks ago I bought my first Canon rangefinder on ebay. Actually, I was very lucky to win a bid on an entire set, with a IV-Sb, 50mm f/1.8, 35mm f/2.8 and 135 f/3.5 (the last two both with auxilary finders), flash unit, filters, hoods, leather cases, the works! And for a very good price... So, now the showing-off-part, see the attached jpg!

Well, since this is al new to me, expect to see some threads with questions by me popping up over the next weeks...

Bart

Another one that joined the RF Cult...:D
Won't be long now before the GAS kicks in..

Enjoy the experience.

Welcome to the 'Family"

Thanks for the warm welcome! I'm afraid its too late, I already have fallen in love :D. After I got the kit I have brought it immediately for a CLA, and have just got it back today. According to the guy who did the CLA the Canon was in very good shape. And I bought me some film (had some rolls left, but they have expired in 2004...), so I'm ready to go!

Welcome to the forum - thats a nice looking outfit!, and no need to apologise about the "showing-off"....it's very popular here! ;)
Dave.

Welcome, but at the risk of seeming curmudgeonly, you can't show off with kit: there is ALWAYS someone with something (they think is) better. Pics and trying to help others are the only ways to show off.

Cheers,

R.

That's how I got sucked in, Canon IIF, 35/2.8, 50/1.8, 100/3.5, and 135/3.5 for $500. (Prices were lower in 2003!) Actually, I got a $70 refund because the shutter was holey.

It got me a lot more active in photography.

Bart, did you get that outfit on USA eBay and ship it across? I recall seeing a set just like that (right down to the inclusion of the fairly useless flash) perhaps 6 to 8 weeks ago, seemingly poised to go for a rather low price, but two of the three lenses (I think it was) were listed as having fungus, with nasty spidering visible in the seller's photos, so I said "no thanks." If this is that set, how successful was your CLA man at getting the fungus out and restoring the surfaces?

It was indeed an American auction, and I had it shipped over here (minor annoyance: the distance scale on the lenses is in feet and I 'm more of a metric kind of guy...). I don't recall the auction you were referring to, but the one I won did not mention any fungus. As a mater off fact, my CLA-guy mentioned the camera and lenses were in very good shape, no fungus at all, shutter curtains were original but in no need off replacement, and camera and lenses are very nice cosmetically.
And just for kicks, I bought a new battery and some flash bulbs for the flash unit, and it works :). Don't know if I am actually ever going to really use it, but is was fun anyway!
