I've search the forum, found some threads regarding the filters, but couldn't find a definite answer.
Can I buy ANY bay I color filter and it will fit my Yashica-Mat (with crank)?
As I understood, hoods and wide/tele lenses from Rolley will NOT fit. But what about filters?

Thanks in advance

"Regular" filters (read commercial ones) should fit.

However, when I got my Rolleiflex, it came with a set of DIY filters the previous owner used on it, and these would not lock properly on the Yashica mat 124 I had at this time. The entered the Bayonet but I could not them to the "locked" position (but they were still usable).

I believe there is a small difference there...

I always thought that a bay 1 filter is a bay 1 filter - until I bought a couple more Yashicas. They always fitted my 635 which I have had for years, they fit the 124G, but not the 124 (non-G).

What I would like to see is a cheap/reasonable source for bay 3 filters. Rollei brand seem to be priced 10% for the item and 90% for the name.

I am noticing this problem now with my Yashica-Mat LM. Some Bay-1 filters and auxiliary lenses are way too loose in the Bay mount. I think Yashica modified the Bay-1 somewhat on some models.

The Bay-1 fit on yashica-mats I have are a loose fit with the Yashica hoods, the Rollei hoods are a tight fit and once I had great difficulty removing a Rollei hood, even the correct Yashica filters I have are a loose fit and the rollei items fit better but these are made for 75mm Rollei lens not the Yashica's 80mm , the glass on the correct Yashica filters is slightly bigger as are their lens hoods so watch for vignetting when using Rollei stuff at large apertures.

This morning I thought I had better recheck my Yashica and Rollei filters and I was wrong to state the glass area was greater on the Yashica , they both appear to have the same diameter of glass @ 30mm however the Rollei glass is 4mm to the base and the Yashica is 1.5mm making the air gap different to the camera lens front element.
The three lugs on the Yashica item are slightly smaller than the Rollei also which is why they don't attach as tightly to both makes of camera
Now for hoods the two Yashica brand hoods I have are a loose fit to all my bay-1 cameras and three Rollei hoods are a good fit and are 2mm shorter the the Yashics hoods. Diagonally the Yashica hood is 5mm larger

There are a few posts regarding the tolerances of Yashica Bay 1s. Fitting things which use the inside mounts, like filters, from other makes is usually no problem at all. Even if they feel loose, the three spring loaded pins which engage with the accessory should keep things in place. However, the outside mounts all seem to be a fraction oversize. Rollei items, which are probably built to the closest tolerances (it's their spec after all) seem to cause most problems. Japanese made accessory metal lenshoods seem to be OK but Rolleis, as noted above, almost always are difficult and are to be avoided. Minolta might be a bit tight too (don't know about the other Japanese TLR makers), its Autopole polariser is difficult to fit and remove from Yashicas - whenever anything requires physical force, it is not a good sign.

I always assumed that Bay-1 was Bay-1. After seeing this thread, I dug out my old Yashica Mat EM, Yashica D, and a variety of lens hoods and filters.

Lens Hoods (outer bayonet): I have always had a Yashica lens hood, so I never had reason to try anything else on these cameras. Today, I found that the Rollei hoods could be mounted on the Yashicas with some futzing. They had to be perfectly lined up, perfectly level, pushed in just the right amount, and they mounted. Reversing the process to remove them was a bit vexing. A Minolta lens hood mounted a little more easily, but I'll stick with the Yashica lens hood for the Yashicas.

Filters (inner bayonet): I tried a B+W filter, 3 different Rollei filters (older and newer), a Hoya filter, and a Minolta filter. All of these bayonetted easily onto the Yashica D and the Yashica Mat EM.

I'm prepared to accept that there may be some variation between different Yashica TLRs, perhaps depending upon when they were made.

Let me muddy the waters a bit more for everyone. The lens cap for my Yashica Mat 124G (metal, hinged in middle) won't fit my Ricohmatic 225. It bayonets into the viewing lens OK, but when you fold it down, it is too long to fit into the taking lens by a millimeter or so. The spacing between the lenses is different. I don't have a Rollei to try it on. However, if you want a lens cap that cannot be lost off the camera, get an Aires that bayonets on and locks. Once you put it on, you turn the front of the cap over the taking lens. It then locks on just like a bayonet mount lens does. By the way, it fits both my Yashica and Ricohmatic!
Concerning filters, you can always get a Bayonet 1 to Series 5 filter adapter (what I use) or I think there are Bay 1 to threaded filter sizes.

I had a problem with various filters not fitting my 635 when I got it. The hoods were no problem, so I figured there was a difference in the retaining pins of the inner bayonet.

Now there were three models of the 635 produced, with mostly cosmetic differences between them. But from the second version, to the third, there was a more standardization undertaken with the Rollie spec.

I found this out when I purchased a parts body to rebuild my 635. As it turned out, the retaining pins of the inner bayonet were shorter, and had a different end shape on the last version than on the second version. I replaced the second version pins with the third version, now everything fits as it should.

ps: I bought a couple of those generic plastic lens caps for TLR's, and they fit the Rollieflex just fine, but not the 635. I finally got an OEM cap for the Yashica.
