There is a danger in trying to talk down an already good deal. Years ago I was in a camera shop and there was a box of used assorted filters with a price sign that said $5 each. I looked through it and came up with 6 bayonet filters to fit my Rolleiflex. 6X5=30, so I asked if I could buy them for $25. The sales person said he'd have to check with a senior clerk, who realized that the Rollei filters should not have been in the box. :(

Dear Colyn,

I am firmly in two minds about this.

If I were in your position, half of me would be thinking, "Wow! What a bargain!", and the other half would be thinking, "Another damn' camera I don't need."

I've often thought that if I'd been able to pass up 'bargains' I never use, I'd be able to afford more of the kit I really want. Of course you may be different, and certainly, my views have changed over the years. And I have to say that faced with that for $25, I'd probably have bought it too. But then I ask myself why...

Cheers,

R.

I grab cameras like this whenever possible. As to the why, I give them away to someone that wants to try film photography.

Dear Brian,

I have to confess that I do the same. But the sad part is that I find more bargains than people who want to take up film photography. Which is why, I suppose, there are so many bargains about.

Cheers,

R.

Some cameras I pick up I sell for more than what I gave. This gives me more money to buy what I need. Other times I give away some..

In addition to my Leica gear I also use Nikon cameras so this will be an extra for that time I'll need it. It'll also give me the chance to try out the 36-72mm lens since I have never had one..

Same here, I know Igor gives away lots of stuff as well. I had a kid in my class who was taking photography, and did not have a camera. I had given all the ones with working meters away, but had one K Mount that worked fine, except for the meter. Student would not take it, mind you, the class was almost half way in to the year and she had no camera.

Campus Camera donated a $10,000 minilab to them when they bought a faster unit as well as a load of paper I dropped off. I think my enlarger donations are about up to five now.

Some of the folks on Photo Forum were quite generous, even shipping to the school from out of state.
