I'm wondering if it would be THAT difficult realizing a dreamy portrait lens: a 90-135 F/2 (eventually with VR / IS or whatever you call it) and a 1:2 macro feature: given the reduced range, I'm assuming a 77mm filter lens costing around 1500/2000€

Do you think it's feasible? If no, why ? In that regard I consider the 14-24 from Nikon much more complex to do even if "only" at F/2.8

Canon has a 135 f/2, not sure about the close focus but you could always use extension tubes or a closeup filter for that.

What do you mean by “dreamy” though?

Get a Nikon 105mm or 135mm f2.0 DC lens. The Defocus Control lets you control the dreamyness to sub-conscious levels! :p Plus, those lenses are built to last forever, all coated glass and steel. Still sad on occasions about the one I traded in for a Leica M8...:bang:

Guys,
I know very well both the 105 (I had it) and the 135 DC while of course I don't for Canon counterpart. The question is if on the next turn of lens updates (or whenever in the future) we could have only one great lens. I didn't mentioned DC although I like it a lot.

not feasible

not feasible

Pretty weird question, Dino. Are you talking about a zoom 90-135 at F2 with a macro capability too? If that were optically possible to make (and I doubt it) it would definitely cost a fortune and would very bulky indeed. It wouldn't be a dream lens, rather a nightmare I am afraid.
