Just when I thought I was over GAS...

I've bought and sold plenty of gear over the years and thought I had settled on a stable set of bodies and lenses - both analogue and digital, vintage and modern, 35mm and 120.

However, whilst idly browsing an on-line auction site I came across a nice Zeiss Ikon being offered - I had one briefly before, liked it but returned it as I also then had an M7 and didn't want both. The M7 has since been replaced by an M8 but I missed it and fancied another modern film camera to go with my M3. I put in a low bid and, to my surprise, won it.

Soon afterwards, I was reading a site that compared the ZI to a Minolta CLE - this camera and its CL cousins have been intriguing me for a long time, so I idly went back to the auction site where there was a nice one at a buy-it-now price that looked eminently reasonable. A couple of clicks later and its on its way to me...

So, heed my warning - just when you think GAS has gone, it comes back at unexpected times. Can't say I'm disappointed though - I'm really looking forward to getting the new kit.😀

I empathize with you. I missed 6x6 too much, and under the influence of GAS got myself a Hasselblad 500C with a 80mm Planar non-T*. Now, I cannot stop shooting with it.

I don't think gas ever actually goes away...it just subsides for awhile! I'm craving a CV 75 heliar. then once I get that, I'm thinking a bit larger bag to carry camera & 3 lenses, 35,50,75. (Joe's advise would be most welcome in this area). Then I'm starting to eye early Leica's once again, so nah! it never goes away! But we do learn that when it does come upon us, to not hit the panic button as fast as we once did!🙂

the rd1 2some is staying put, no doubt there, but the lens regime is open to current interpretation...
and i have been itching for a nikon s2 plus one lens, likely a 35. also been thinking about a fuji 690...
and don't get me started on bags...i bought 2 more lately and just ordered another.

there's always something else to get, but i keep it focused on adding capabilities. i'm gearing up for 4x5, with an eye on even larger formats.

a nikon sp 2005 kit and a 50/1.5 c-sonnar would be nice, though redundant. 🙂

For a long time I thought I was done. I think the last piece of serious RF gear I bought was my Elmar 90mm f4 collapsible...

But just yesterday I sent payment for a Nikon S2 body with a fast (f1.4) 50mm lens, with hood and case. And it's a different brand and system altogether! 😱

Your warning came too late here... As we all know, GAS never ends...

Oh yes! At least I don't feel lonely among you GAS guys. Just bought a new lens - although it has been only last week when I said that I wouldn't buy any other stuff for some time.
No,no,no! i want (and need to) get rid of some gear - let to have it go when new stuff comes in. But I have a hard time to decide:
Right now I use my Hexar RF with 50, my M2 with Summicron 50 DR and CV Ultron 1,7/35 and my Mamiya 6. Sometimes (because always in my backpack) a canonet GIII 1,7 QL. Well, I should be well off with these. Those are the ones I use the most.
When I think of selling:
Rolleiflex 3,5F - BUT it is in BEAUTIFULL condition, works excellent! Just a joy to feel the solidity!

A perfect working Yashica Mat 124G - BUT its my first (own) camera, I bought it as a student, I have had it for more than 25 Years!!

Canon A1 with 28mm / 50mm/ 125mm and zoom - BUT wouldn't get much money for that stuff 8and my son likes it - I might get him interested in photography this way ;-)
A canon FTB - same problem!

Hasselblad 500c/m - 50mm / 80mm / 150mm (all C-T), acute matte and so on, 6 backs,polaroid, another 500 ELX in Mint shape with another 80
I love the images but I hardly ever use the stuff - like to travel light and a Hassel is more a tripod camera to me - but the images are great and its great to be able to use different films by changing backs. And I can make closeups with the 21, 32 and 55 tubes!
Get rid of those? I really can't decide!!!

It is a difficult time for GAS. There are so many bargains that at out there it's possible to pick up a system for what you would have spent on a body and a normal lens these days. Even hard to find glass is going for less and examples keep popping up.

I can not say that I'm done, but I can say that for now, I am happy.

My latest GAS attack is the Vivitar Ultra Wide and Slim. It's potentially my cheapest GAS attack ever, but the problem is I cannot find anyone to buy the camera from...
