I just read this in an ad on German eBay, and I am hoping the seller just wants to push his sale of a (new) silver ZI.
Has anybody heard anything like this? I just bought a silver ZI and I'm wondering about the availability of silver lenses in the future. I just hope they don't go the CV way...

Sounds like rubbish.
Zeiss must know their products look better in chrome anyway.
The seller may have been referring to there being no more limited editions?

Well, it is a Limited Edition they are selling, but I got caught by this statement:
"Zeiss will manufacture the ZM only in black in the future."
This last without reference to the Limited Edition...
But I guess it's just their sales pitch...
Wich is a bad translation, too. The German original of the 2nd sentence translates more like this:Unsere Letzte in SILBER ! Zeiss fertigt die ZM in Zukunft nur noch in schwarz ! Last Body in silver ! Production in silver has been discontinued. In the future only black available !

I can't speak for the Zeiss Ikon body, but the silver lens will/have been discontinued.
I was told by a reliable source who asked not to be named as there hasn't been an official notice yet.
But yes, the silver ZM lenses are on their way out. However, I was also told that there were still stocks of silver ZM lenses to last through the end of the year. Again, via my source.

Would be interesting to see how many silver ZMs are sold compared to black.

Yes. ALL of them.
PS: No, I'm not working for Zeiss.

I have the 50mm planar in silver and the 28mm biogon in black. Did that because I wanted to be able to tell them apart without thinking, and I don't care about silver lenses on black bodies or vice versa (I'm the one taking the picture, right?). If this news is true, then it's a pity, because I think the silver has a nice look--brushed rather than polished.

Hmmm. If this is true - it's sad and dumb. Having had both - silver and black Zeiss lenses, It seems to me that siver wear much better. Black ones seem to lose paint and show brassing faster. And it doenst make them look any better, IMO. I wuld only buy silver ones by ZM.
