Leica M6 or Leica M8?

For me it is much more convenient travelling with a pack of films than with a computer to download pics /or buying a lot of memory cards/ and mainly because I don't need to worry about charging my camera (and laptop) every day or two, so I can go shooting day after day without the pain of dependance on electricity.

@andreios: that was the reason that I always carried Leica CL with my Nikon DSLR (both I ended up selling for Leica M6). But I have always had my laptop with me and simple solar charger for camera batteries one can get for almost EUR 50. And digital gives me flexibility for choosing between color, b&w images as well as for ISO. At the moment I don't have any single digital camera and I don't wanna buy DSLR again and present affordable rangefinder is only Leica M8.

@bhop73: Despite crop factor, sensor size is big enough for 10MP. I have 35mm lens, i.e. I get 50mm on Leica M8, which I actually prefer over 35.

I understand this very well... I'm selling mu dslr and the only possible replacement I can see is a digital rangefinder - although I've been looking more at the R-D1..

43mm IR filters aren't hard to find, at least in my experience in the US. i have two for use with my zeiss lenses.

after its debut, the 35/1.4 nokton was reviewed by Sean Reid who found it didn't focus properly on the M8. however, many users of the nokton 35 have reported no issues with the lens on the M8. i had one for a short period and it focused perfectly on mine.

the 35/1.4 nokton is one of those lenses that seems to generate a lot of debate. probably best to try it yourself and see what you think. imho, it's a good lens, fast and sharp (even wide open) and renders very nicely. a great value.
 
Don't worry too much about XRays. When I travel with film camera, I don't load the film until I reach my destination and put all my films less tha plastic container in a Domke film pouch (10-12 films/pouch). I do however hand carry the film as the Xray machines for check-in baggage is much more powerful than the carry on XRay.
