Would you or do you buy 2 of the same lens that you really like?

I never did but it would make sense for me if I were going to use two cameras, loaded with different films. Sort of extending the one camera / one lens concept ... 🙂
 
I might want to check/test more than one of the same lens.

Did so when buying my saxophone and the difference between the three I tested (same brand same type) could clearly be heard.

Same goes for bikes, paddles, girls..... so why not lenses 😀

I once did that for a lens whose optical qualities I liked. The first of the two copies had a slight mechanical flaw, so I bought another copy and sold the first after I had made sure the second was optically equivalent, but mechanically superior.

Exactly. It sometimes happens by accident - a camera comes with a lens on it, especially 50/2 Jupiters and 5cm Elmars - but deliberately buying two of the same lens seems eccentric to me.

Besides, I've often enough seen sample variations (even with new lenses) where one has 'magic' and the other doesn't, so there's a god chance you'd be dissatisfied with one or the other of them.

The first lens that I bought for my m6 was a 50mm summilux v1....I've been using it for about 10 years now and never really thought that I'd get another 50mm...then about a year and a half ago I met up with a rff member and I bought an m2 with a 50mm rigid at a really good price from him (it was a combo that he picked up for me at his local camera store).....I coudn't say no because it was such a good deal...I use both lenses now but to be honest, I could live with just one....I am not sure which one though...

so yeah, you're right Roger....sometimes it happens "by accident"

I wouldn't have 2 identical lenses. I Know it's not what you are asking but there is a case for more than one lens of the same focal length for the same mount. Until I sold my M kit a year ago I had three 50mm Leica lenses, a Noctilux, Summicron f2 and an Elmar f3.5. Each lens had its obvious merits and 50mm is a length that I favour.
 
I did! In total I've had five Summarons F/2.8 without goggles in the last two years. After selling two, I got two other ones. I'm thinking of selling two of them again but don't know which. Original LTM, convertible LTM/M or M-only. I'm a bit of a collector 😱 and for that type of guy they're three different lenses 😎
