Met Bruce Gilden this morning on the way to work...

I was on the subway heading into work from Queens and who do I see sitting in my train car; Bruce Gilden. I spoke with him briefly and asked him to sign a computer print out I was reading on my way into the office. The print out was a Mayima M7II review.

Really nice guy. He slapped me on the back. 😀
 
I have fantasized this many times...actually pretty much every time I'm in New York! Very cool. My fantasy of course involves photographing him photographing me.

Heh, I even started a flickr group once upon a time called "dont smile, keep walking!", named after Bruce's subtle way of dealing with people on the street when taking their photo 😀

I like his Ganster essay, the shots in England, in the Haymarket and especially the Strawberry pub are a bit special as I work in Newcastle, grew up in Newcastle, (a tough city)and drink regularly in the Strawberry pub, (its directly across the road from St James Park football ground). I hadn't realised he had been arround there
 
Juan, it has nothing to do with this photographer (not my thing either)... your general tone on many threads is just somber and pessimistic. I have no ill intentions towards you for real. You obviously know your stuff.

That's not true... I keep talking very well about lots of photographers: Bresson, Atget, Newton, Frank, Winogrand, etc., and I even do it about totally unknown to me ones, like the great Ravilious shared some weeks ago -for a second time- by another member. And I also thank other members constantly for their shots.

Very few times I've said here on RFF there's something I don't like.

That little video of him on the streets of Manhattan doesn't really tell you a lot about his work.. check the Coney Island video or the one about gangsters.. I love his style, and please, if you think he's a rude guy.. pff. Waiters in Paris are rude, this guy is just being honest.

Hi Renzsu,

Just in case it's me you're talking to: I never used the word rude.

I said I saw several videos and found his shots irrelevant.
I said he needs to be taken as a public figure more than just his photographs.

And he's on his own right, of course. And I'm on mine.

As always on forums, just a personal appreciation...
