The economic news - broadcasted by the Italian radio service - reported this morning that Ferrania will reduce its labour force from 340 workers to 100 about, because they will stop any manufacturing activity. The negotiations with a possible buyer has not gone as expected: it means that another historical photo company (active before WW1, it also produced chemical components for ammunitions for the Tzarist Army) is going to disappear.
I loved the Ferrania colour film, and I still own a Ferrania Ibis 34: that is a nice camera for 127 film roll, produced in large quantities during the sixties.

I wasn't aware of the Ibis before, nice looking cameras.

As has been discussed in this forum before, Ferrania also made the film that is currently being sold as AgfaPhoto Vista in Europe. (Anybody know what became of their plans to introduce it in the U.S.?)

Color film producers are becoming a very exclusive club. Just Kodak, Fuji and Gevaert now, right?

R.I.P Ferrania (hope you don't mind me posting this image but the Ferraniacolor sign makes me all nostalgic).

From Frances: and Mitsubishi, insh'Allah. We also have our eye on Iran...

Cheers,

R.

And Lucky (they even introduced a new 100 speed color emulsion in 2008) and Ilford in Switzerland, producing color micro film (Micrographic).

AFAIK Ferrania will continue to do custom cutting and packing of films (for AgfaPhoto / Lupus Imaging and the Lomographic Society for example).
By the way: Inoviscoat is able to coat color film as well, but at the moment they don't do it. But they are already coating color paper.

Cheers, Jan
