The photos are great but the film I'm not so sure about. Looks grainy and the color in the shadows is pretty weird.

The Nikon Coolscan V ED seems to be pretty brutal with grain- if there's any there, it picks it up. And yeah, Ektar can be a bit weird with colors, at least that's been my experience with the three rolls I've shot of it. But it might just be me, blowing the exposure.

Interesting, I've had Walgreens process these first rolls of Ektar, so maybe the minilab isn't the best place to process the stuff.

I used to take my C-41 to the local drug store. The previous operator was really good about keeping the machines clean with fresh chemistry and the film always came out great.
The last roll I dropped off was in the hands of the new operator who didn't seem to care. It was also the first time I got to experience the minilab of terror complete with scratches and dust.

I'm bundling my C-41 with my E-6 send out now. I've always had good results from sending it out. But my experience with the blue color cast could come from my scanner, I use a Nikon but perhaps I'm missing a color profile.

Every fourth frame of this roll of film has a big ol' scratch/smudge across it. So, yeah, not exactly treated with care by the minilab.

It pays, with your local minilab, to get to know the operators and when the machines are checked and cleaned.

I also wonder about the white balance but, since frames -2, -1 and 0 are usually wasted I usually start with this

on the grounds that it gives a decent WB and a standard comparison from film to film. BTW, I try to load the thing and take the wasted shot at the same time in the morning which gives an interesting variety of whites over the year.

Apologies for the untidy state of the kitchen, I would have tidied up if I'd known... ;-)

I beginning to wish I'd not sold the Summar with the badly re-ground front element. It was a new art form...
