... is it really that sensitive that you should not even touch it slightly? i recently borrowed a 50mm lens to test and allthough being careful the rear rim touched the roller a few times when installing/removing it in the field - i thought no big deal, but have seen in the manual stated explicitly that any contact should be avoided... should i be worried? or what's your experience?

It's probably ok
The roller is a follower that follows the ramp that's on the lens, so the lens ends up touching it in any case. I'd think minor touching would be fine, as long as it's not hit hard or pushed to the limit of it's motion or something. I try to avoid it at all times in any event.

thanks, yes i also think that minor touching is ok, but will certainly be careful...
