Zeiss Tessar 2.8/28mm Prototype f Leica M

The seller foto-hobby often has a lot of hybrid/hacked lenses and or items described as prototypes. The serial number of this lens, starting with 100 and including a "V" (for versuch) follows the normal pattern of serial numbers that zeiss formerly used to assign to prototypes, but these beauty rings can be reproduced/faked. Who knows whether it is genuine or not.

The mount come from a goggled summaron. I don't think leica/Zeiss couldn't get a non-goggled version part to do such a prototype.

Obviously it is someone's home-brew project, cobbled together from parts. Leica doesn't make lenses with Zeiss Tessars in Leitz Canada mounts. Neither does Zeiss. And a 28mm lens cell in a 35mm mount? It won't track focus with the rangefinder.

The seller is a (mostly good, but far from affordable) photo store form Poland. I suppose these lens hacks are old East Bloc efforts to overcome their problems getting hold of western technologies - these were usually converted at least semi professionally.
