Street photography in Iceland

I live in Iceland, country of 300 thousand people and the capital it self, Reykjavík, has about 100 thousand people.
So shooting street photography is not as easy as in big city´s like NY. Every one here is very aware of any kind of camera in the street and if you point it at someone you will get a look from them, specially a guy like me, I dont really have the friendly kinda look 😱.
But I did my first try last friday. Walked up and down again on the main shopping street with my M6 and a 50mm with Trix in it.

Nice work! 5 and 6 are my personal favorites - perfect composition there. I can definitely relate to the limitations of a less populated area, but wherever you go, I think people don't really mind having their picture taken as much as they make it seem. My method so far is just to keep moving, smile, and ask for their permission if you think you should.

yea I think street photography can be done everywhere. My trick was to find a spot, focus and then just wait for the moment and snap. Those who looked at me got a smile from me but I think people where rather wondering about the camera I had. Leica is not a common camera here in Iceland. Everyone have dslr or some small point and shoot digital.

my main spot for street photography for about half a year in Switzerland were places like Vevey (17.000 inh.), Montreux (24.000 inh.) and the surrounding small villages. http://www.flickr.com/search/?s=int&ss=1&w=26124575@N04&q=vevey&m=text
it's different from shooting in big cities like Berlin, but not always more difficult!

Last one = best. IMHO 😀

Nice shots. Hardest thing when shooting street: catch walking people at just that right moment. A split second early or late and they're dancing, limping, tripping, or they just plain cr*pped their pants 😛.

Gotta say you're doing better at it than me 😀
