It is lovely, however; even the seals are in good shape. It seems to be stuck on self-timer. I rigged some batteries but nothing comes on. Suggestions?
Either pay for a professional repair- ~$100, or give it a shot flood cleaning the mechanism. Probably the front group needs to come off, and Ronsonol or 99%+ Isopropyl alchohol.
"by" missing? Did you mean give it a shot BY flood cleaning the mechanism? I will give it a shot. 🙂
Thanks, Bryan. It only cost $10 but it is in fantastic cosmetic shape. I can see the shutter twitch when I pressed the shutter button ...
No need to panic. The symptoms show a need for battery power, as indicated in several threads I googled. Apparently, I am no good at rigging 357 batteries. I will try some 675s when I get a chance ...
You can still get the big fat (more powerful ?) A640's and that's what I use in mine. The two little LED's failed a while ago but it goes on working. Looking inside it I can see that it has an old fashioned PCB and wonder if it can be repaired at home... As both failed I assumed it was a dud connection or lack of power but the batteries are/were OK.
Thanks, David. Is that battery readily available at drug stores and such? Radio Shack? I think I am doing something wrong in trying to jumpstart with 357/sr44s ...

I'm sorry to say it but I very much doubt it, knowing what they are like in my country...
But I get mine by return of post from a specialist supplier and so I expect you'll find one in your part of the world. I found them by searching on "watch batteries" - of course.
