Sorry if this is buried somewhere or hidden in plain site--I searched the forums with the google site search function but couldn't seem to find a list.

I'm wondering if there is a list anyone has compiled of the decent all-manual RF cameras. I thought of this as I was researching the new Zeiss Ikon. I was really liking it until I realized it requires batteries to function at all. I'm now interested in compiling a list and comparing all the cameras that are capable of functioning fully manual--even ones that may have battery supported functions (metering, etc.).

What are your requirements for being on the list? Current production, Still plenty in the Used market place, No light meter at all, With a light meter is ok but it must not use batteries to work the shutter, .......??

Is there a specific Mount that you are looking for also?

Looking for German? Japanese? Japanese? .......

I think there is a thread with a list somewhere here, maybe we had a list of M Mount RFs. But I do remember something like this.

I'm mainly interested 35mm cameras, current and old production--no particular mount. Leica M almost certainly has the widest range of lenses available so those are probably of most interest. The light meter function is of less interest--more interested in cameras that work without batteries, thus offering a wider operating range.

Thanks!

Why is battery dependence - and on such a common battery - an issue in this day and age?

Prime example- I'm in Iraq right now. I move around a lot. Yes I could keep a handful of batteries in my case, but why? It's so much easier to have a camera that doesn't need them, and knowing the EV system is just too easy. I don't need a meter for anything up until night time.

Leica MP, Bessa R2, Bessa R2M for starters. Battery for the meter only. M-Mount, so will also take screw mount with the adapter.

For interchangeable lens cameras:

Leica M mount:
- Bessa T, Bessa R2, R[234]M
- Leica M1 - M6, MP (and derivatives)
- Leica/Minolta CL

Leica LTM mount: Basically all of them including:
- Bessa R
- All Barnacks
- All Canon RFs
- Lots of other Leica copies, including Russian copies, Niccas, Raid, etc.

Contax RF: all of them

Nikon RF: all of them

And others that I missed. It's much easier to answer the opposite question, which (interchangeable lens) RFs are battery dependent: that would be Hexar RF, Minolta CLE, Epson RD1*, ZI, Bessa R[234]A, Leica M7, M8, M9. That's it, AFAIK.

Roland.

Stay safe brother
