I would say its noticeably sharper than my epson 4490 and overall just better quality, faster, and smaller. I didn't do any color profiling, all I did was bump up the contrast a tiny bit. I used vuescan also. I've never used a coolscan before, so I can't make a comparison to how sharp they are and their colors, etc...

I have the little brother of this scanner, a 7400, and I can attest it's way sharper than the 4490 I had. I did not manage to get a good scan from a color neg or slide yet, but for b&w it's fast and sharp.

The Reflectas are generally of higher quality at a comparable price level (I owned several...).

I've never used a coolscan before, so I can't make a comparison to how sharp they are and their colors, etc...
Coolscans are nice but overrated. I didnt see much of a difference between a Coolscan V ED and an Epson V700 flatbed. The detail you gain with the Coolscan is in film grain.
I wouldnt buy one today.
