Please help me choose a photo for a competition.

Against my better judgement I've decided to enter a pic into a competition. A friend who works in the Queensland Government emailed me a link to a competition they're running for a photograph that exhibits a flavour of our wonderful state of Queensland ... one classification for more metropolitan oriented images and one for the other side of the coin ... the wide open spaces away from the big smoke!

I took some shots in a rural valley behind Brisbane while driving a year ago and would like to enter one of them but can't decide which one and there's only a few days left to get my entry in. I'm not seriously hoping to win the competition ($1200.00 first prize) but if I can get an image into the final short listed entries they are going to be exhibited at the Queensland RNA Show in a month or so's time and the public will vote and make the final choice!

I'm not entiely happy with the sky in any of them as the development seems a liitle patchy but any comments for potential improvment regarding contrast adjustments etc over all would be appreciated. 🙂

They were shot with Kodak PlusX 120 in my Bronica RF645 ... I decided to crop them back to a 6x4 ratio ... and I'm not even sure if that was the right thing to do either! 😕

Second or third, but with the left side cropped so the rear wheel is not in the frame.

Do I get half the prize money for that Keith?
 
I prefer number 3 for the wispy clouds although I'd crop out the tail light from all of them as the texture distracts from the even tones leading us into the shot.
 
Not the first one.

The sky in the third looks a little more interesting, but I don't know about the tire crop.

I would like to see more drama in the sky--perhaps burning down the edges toward the horizon. I would like to see more contrast in the mountains, but it is going to be tricky as the foreground subject is already contrasty. Although if you increased print exposure, you may give a feel of being close to dusk/dawn. That should give the image some more drama. (I am basing this off my monitor and whatever CM is going on.)

But it is your work. You need to own it. All I can do is project my taste on it.

#3 cropped to eliminate the rear wheel. No need to crop the bottom.
Sky is excellent, the clouds provide sensation of depht.
Reducing the car´s relative size "opens" the picture giving a sensation of infinite space.

2 is clearly the best and most dynamic: the car shining is the longest (reaching the door) on that one, helping depth and perspective, and that clear line mixed with the road line produces a sense of space that contrasts with the contemplative and relaxed position of the subject...

Nice shot!
