.......sometimes i thinks
Hi there,
Can someone tell me how to fit a series 7 filter into my 35 Lux hood?
I read that the hood comes apart and the filter just fits in but i can't seem to figure how the hood comes apart - have tried twisting and pulling.
Thanks

Iirc, there's a ring to hold the filter in place on some hoods. I haven't owned one, but I had a similar problem with a super angulon hood & filter. With the angulon, the filter just goes in, and the lens goes into the hood.

IIRC, place the 12504 shade in your right hand and twist toward you with your right hand and the bottom portion away from you with your left hand. If that doesn't work, then try it the other way.
The shade simply screws apart and the filter drops in.

Bill,
Will try that again then. Perhaps i didn't twist vigorous enough...

Just so you know, many consider the 12504 completely inadequate to handle the infamous flare that afflict this lens.
Of course it's personal and subjective on how you view this "issue".
Consequently, these very same people have found the 35 summicron square hood much more effective - and I think it looks cooler too !
enjoy the lens !

If you scroll halfway down this page, you can see the 12504 disassembled:

The 12504 hood works well, I keep one handy with a UV/IR for the M8 with color, but use a 12526 rect. with no filter for b/w work.

If it's been 'dinged' (dropped/knocked) it can be VERY stiff. Likewise if it hasn't been unscrewed for a few decades.
This has been my standard lens/hood for close on 30 years. Ignore the internet rumours about flare: it's never worried me, or my publishers, and I'd guess that at least half of my 35mm shots were taken with it. My first was second hand, and stolen in about 1983. I immediately bought a new one, wich I'm still using on film and digital.
Cheers,
R.

I have the summicron square hood as well but one of the way to use my 35 lux with a filter is by using the standard lens hood.
Ampguy: Thanks for the link. Pictures say a thousand words.
Roger: I think you may be right. The hood is dinged and I doubt that it has been unscrewed anytime recently. Ah well..... guess i'll let it go.
Thanks all =D

fyi, i followed all the threads, and use a 12524 rectangular hood instead of the 12504. it looks good, works fine, but is at least a bit inconvenient if you use more than one type of filter. i just finished a trip using the summilux pre-asph, and didn't much enjoy hand-holding a pol filter in front of the lens hood.
has any other lux pre-asph user perhaps mounted a step-up adapter into the front ring of the lens for a semi-permanent solution?
thanks

probably could, but ...
probably could, but ...
likely a lot of flare by putting a 58mm filter at the front of a 12504 hood. Not even sure if it would work, but I do use snap in 58mm hood caps over my 12504s.

that's a good tip - putting a 58mm snap-in hood over the 12504. i just "won" one so i can play with both it and the 12524. if all else fails, i can use the 12524 with a semi-permanently mounted UV filter, and series 7 "other" filters with the 12504. not elegant, but effective.
cheers
