anyone using the ipad re. their photography?

i have been using the ipad as a display board for my images...

at the farmer's market the vendors see me shooting every week and some ask me what i do with the photos or why do i take them or why would i take a pic of the peppers? and i tell them that i'm an amateur and maybe some of the shots will end up on the net or on my website.
with the ipad i can go back the next week and show them what i took the week prior. some are more interested than others and some don't know how to react. i wonder at times if they think i'm wanting to sell the pic to them though i never suggest that.
some are just facinated by the ipad itself and we wind up talking about it.
all good, as it helps me build rapport with them.

the slide show function is very cool, can play with or without music and the sound is pretty good.

so, who is using the ipad and how are you using it?

My wife and I just got back from a two week trip where the iPad was our only computer. I brought a Bessa R with 35 Skopar and my wife brought a Nikon D3000 DSLR. Each night on the iPad we would ingest the day's Nikon photos from its SD card. When we had internet access, I also would upload the day's photos to Picasa Web Albums using the iPad app, PicasaFoto.

We also uploaded photos to Facebook, using the Facebook app that runs on the iPad and iPhone. The Facebook website's photo uploader tool didn't work for me in the Safari browser of the iPad.

Apple's Photos app on the iPad did a good job on ad hoc slideshows. Each night we'd run a slideshow of the day's photos.

Before we left we also loaded the iPad with a few photos of our home and home town to show people if the opportunity arose.

This all worked pretty well, but despite the PicaseFoto iPad app being set to upload full res photos, what ended up on the Picasa website was low res material, e.g. 640x480. Fortunately, we had had no reason to erase the cards and I've just finished loading all the full-res photos into the Picasa app on my PC.

I've had one for two weeks and it is great for display. I need to find software that allows you to create albums on the device and then Ill be set.

just create them on your computer and sync with itunes to transfer over to the ipad.
if you need to add more, do it on the computer and tranfer the whole thing. the ipad will replace it all at once.

If the Ipad supported Flash, I would buy one in an instant. Without Flash, it's useless to me.

yeah, i'm just organizing them on my macbook and then moving them over to the ipad, so far.
it's worth the effort as i love the ipad for showing off my images.

I can't afford one until my income gets back to 2008 level.

Not to mention that I want to see the Android/Windoze responses.

That said, I'd love to have some form of table to use as a portable portfolio.

Now there is the one fault I can see. It would be great to be able to add/delete shots one at a time rather than having to re-synch the whole directory from you main PC, but it's just a nice to have and not a deal breaker.

With Apple's $30 Camera Connection Kit, you can load photos directly onto the iPad from SD cards. They appear in the Photos app on the iPad. And you can delete photos once you've loaded them. What you don't get native in the Photos app from Apple is the ability to organize photos into folders or crop or otherwise edit them. The inexpensive PhotoGene app is well regarded for cropping and toning. The folder/organizing apps are just starting to show up. Since you only see files in apps -- there's no Finder or Explorer analog in the iPad operating system -- what you might think would be standard in the way of organizing things just isn't there.

I'll be using it to store photos while on a trip.

Reevaulating my 32 gig purchase, I kinda wish I splurged on the 64 gig 3G version. Looking back at photos I've taken over the past 2 years, I always seem to be at around 35gig/trip (RAW 10-12mp camera). Oh well.... guess I'll need to do some editing before I upload.

The SD plugs are now hard to get. I didn't get one because its easier for me to organize/manage/edit/archive from my main system and then sync what I want. But, now I want one simply because they're running double price on ebay.

The pad is a good media machine: movies, music, podcasts, pictures, etc. It is the ultimate travel and commuter companion. The Narita layover isn't quite so painful. But, forget office work on it; it's not much better than the iPhone there.

The significant negs are no adobe flash ( what are you thinking?) - e.g. no Flickr or hulu. More minor, it's awkward to handle - like carrying a dinner plate or picture frame. And the cost is silly for what is basically an enlarged Touch.

It will be interesting to see what Google does in this tablet format - it ties naturally into their info/mobile apps strategy - as clearly and strongly as Apple's media direction.

Found an app called Photo-sort that does the trick. Allows you to organize on the device.

I'd love an ipad but to be honest I just cant see how it would benefit me personally.
I use a 17" MBP at home, my iphone never leaves my side (very impressed with latest software update!) so I just cant justify it when I have everything covered.
Well done to Apple for raising the bar once again, wonder how long it will take for their efforts will be badly copied by Mr Gates?

I don't even have a laptop or an internet cell phone.

But I have been carrying a small $2.99 album that holds 24 5x7 prints when I need to show people what I do. People say "Wow, real photographs!"

I've had my iPad for about three weeks. It has been prefect for my situation. Don't need the Blackberry or laptop when I travel. Music, books and movies available on the plane. My photos neatly arranged in albums for anyone to see. My elderly parents had never seen many of the pics I've taken of the grandchildren (their great-grandchildren), so I brought the iPad when we went to dinner the other night and they sat in the backseat on the way to the restaurant and viewed about 200 photos thay they probably would have never seen. Best money I've spent in a while...can't say enough good things about it.
