You should not have posted this until RFFers get their copy. I can only imagine the price now, ouch.
Superb pics. They all jump out of my screen.

nice shots, but a bit too much post processing in the second one to my taste ..

They do jump out, Joe. Very cool. Did you sharpen the 2nd in post ?
Also, please do compare to 50/2.8 when you get a chance.

Joe,
If you get a chance, can you post some shots comparing CV 40 and 40 Sonnar? Also, I'd love to see more lower light/wide open shots from Sonnar, if you could, cause in shots like ones above, its really hard to tell much about the lens other than its sharp, But in those conditions I think most lenses will be sharp. So, if you get a chance to push it's limits a bit - would be nice to see results. Thanks.

just re-read this, are you talking about the elmar m roland?
at first, i thought you meant the cv 50/2.5 (read it too quickly).

the sonnar seems warmer, rounder after quick comparison.
will take them both out and shoot together for a more side by side comparison.

I meant the Elmar-M, Joe. Elmar-M and Sonnar should stack up nicely together.
Thanks !

Nice tones and color rendition from the new lens, Joe! Looks like you'll be enjoying this little gem for quite sometime.

Just on this small sample, I like your 40/2.8 Sonnar better for color and the Elmar-M 502.8 for B&W.
Sonnar seems to control hot highlights better while still leaving the other colors rich looking, while the Elmar gives a nicer black and wider tonal range with better separation of greys. Based on a whole 5 shots or so.

benny, just going by gut feel, i know the 40 is a keeper. it is smooth and i like how it handles. i like both b&w and colour from it so far.
ari, have not made any conclusive judgements yet. i know that from the pov of handling alone i much prefer the 40. i'm pretty sure it would be one of (say) 3 lenses if i were to really pare down.

Yes, the CV 50/2.5 handles a lot better than the 50/2.8 Elmar, and the Sonnar looks just like the skopar, physically. Is it brass like the Skopar?

i think so, it's heavy like the 50 and the 3.5 28.
these 3 could be an excellent kit.

Looking at these, Joe, it seems that you can focus Sonnar better than Elmar. (Unless your Elmar is really soft). Sonnr looks good too. I likehow it draws in these shots. Hope you will have some Sonnar vs CV 40 shots/comments.

the elmar is sharp enough...in the market, the light is poor and i have to move fast at times as it gets very crowded and i am moving with the crowd.
these were all shot at 2.8.
i hope to shoot some sonnar and cv 40 shots this week but i'm not one much for 'testing' and will likely just shoot the same subjests with both lenses but handheld etc.
