Hello,
I recently notice reddish/brownish spots on the black area of some prints.
These were made a while ago, and keep framed.
Silver gelatin prints on RC paper.
Interesting not yellowing on white areas.
Does anyone ever experience anything like this?
Thank you in advance.

I believe what you are describing is a result of inadequate fixing during the printing process. I have one old RC print that has this staining. I believe the fixer I used was exhausted.

Microspots. They're caused by oxidation of the silver in the dense black areas of the print. it could be poor fixing, but it could also be that there are gaseous contaminants attacking your prints, which can be accelerated by exposure to UV light. Toning in selenium, gold or a sulfide toner at the time of printing can help. There's no way to fix the spots that have already appeared.
Much talked about, rarely seen, which means diagnosing the issue is difficult, sorry to report.
