I'm in the process of reorganizing my gear. Basically paring everything down so I have my m3 with a 90mm lens (still trying to decide between 90 hexanon / 90 summicron v3) and another camera with my incoming uc hexanon.

As things stand now, I'd have to use the uc hexanon on my bessa-r. I wear glasses and can mostly see the 35mm framelines on my bessa-r. The bessa's magnification is .68 if I remember right.

For my fellow glasses-wearers, how easy is it to see the 35mm framelines on the .58 leica cameras?

It looks like the only .58 cameras are the m6 ttl, m7, and mp? Is that correct? The m7 and mp are definitely out of my price range, so I'd have to go for an m6 ttl. What sort of price do those go for these days?

Thank you for your assistance.

It's very easy to see the 35mm framelines on the 0.58 camera. If I were you, I'd consider a Voigtlander R4A or R4M as well, before buying the Leica 0.58, as you can use lenses as wide as 21mm on the R4 series, they have framelines for them. The R4 is a camera Leica should have made for the extreme wide angles.

The 0.58 Leicas sell for prices equivalent to the 0.72 ones. A mint condition body goes from $1400 to 1600. I had the 0.58 M6TTL, and it was perfect for the 35mm. If I had to buy today, I'd get a Voigtlander R4 series (I have one), as it is $700 for the new body.

I am a fellow glasses wearer and have found the the combination of a 35mm lens on the M6 ttl .58 is very elegant. As a 50mm junkie I must mention that the 50 is not at a disadvantage at this magnification. When going longer, I prefer to use a .72 body or a magnifier.

Thank you. I bet there is plenty of room around the framelines when using a 50mm on a .58 magnification body. That does indeed sound nice. Too bad I'm going to sell my two lenses in that focal length range. :p

Thanks Vic.

I'm going to stick to my decision to get one of the leica .58 models. I dont plan to use any focal lengths other than 35 and 90, so I should be good to go with the .58 m6 and my m3.

Nothing against the R4* line or bessas in general though. In fact, I like the line quite a lot.

.58 is PURRfect for wides

I keep either M-Hex 90mm, or 50mm f/1.2 on my M3. DAG has some great eyepiece inserts that allows me to press my glasses against the finder, or else I would not be able to see the full 50mm frame with glasses on. I have an M6TTL in 0,58 and only use a 35mm on this camera. I have an R4a with 28mm. I prefer the external Zeiss finder for the 21mm. The Zeiss Ikons also work nicely with 35/50 and the 90 is great with an eyepiece magnifier. I can't see the 28mm frame with glasses. The Leica 90mm f/2.0 APO Asph. is tack sharp (ie.accurate focus) wide open using the Ikon/magnifier.

0.58 M7 and M6TTL are the only M bodies which enable me to see all four of the 35mm framelines simultaneously without having to shift camera position. I find the match of glasses + 35/2 + 0.58 finder to be absolutely what I want and need.

The 0.58 is also a help with the28mm framelines, of course, but in my experience one still has to shift your viewing position in order to view all framelines -- i.e. I can't do this simultaneously as I can with the 35mm.

I find the combination of the 0.58 finder and a 35mm lens really makes me terrifically aware of framing and framing creatively.

I have one of those little plastic snap-on eyepieces from dag on my m3. It keeps my glasses from getting scratched up by the metal ring. Is that what you are referring to?

Now I just absolutely have to get a .58 m6ttl. :D

Thanks.

0.58 is just perfect for 28mm and 35mm.
50mm is perfectly manageable, but smallish.
I just love to have a 28 or 35 on a .58x and the 50 on an M2.
Good luck

Cheers.

Yes, this is what I have.

Regarding comment above, I can't see all of the 28mm using the 0.58 and glasses. Without glasses..no problem.
