Leica Summarit or Zeiss Biogon 35mm Lens?

The only ways I can account for the difference in evaluations .... (2) differences in camera-to-subject distance.

Agreed. And, typically, distortion changes quite a bit from close to infinity focus.

On the Leica side, both pre-asph Summilux and Summicron (v4 - I'm missing data for earlier versions) are very good as well, followed by the Summicron ASPH. The 2 ASPH Summilux lenses have a surprising amount of distortion (about 2%?), not far from, say, the two CV Noktons

Not sure about the Summarons.

Still think the CV 35/2.5 is the most amazing deal for the money :)

Roland.

Sample Shots

I've been out taking photographs with the new camera and lens and thought I'd report back and post sample photos since everyone was so nice in giving me advice.

I'm enjoying the Zeiss Ikon camera very much. It's taking time to get used to 35mm lens only. However, the new Zeiss Biogon lens is fabulous. Below are a couple of sample shots I took this past week or two while I've been in New Orleans visiting my daughter.

This shot is of my daughter, taken on the porch of the Maple Street Bookstore in the Uptown neighborhood of New Orleans. It was shot with the aperture at f/11 and the shutter set to 1/30 of a second. I used Kodak Portra 160 NC film I have a photography store in the area develop the film and put it on a CD for me. I didn't mess with this image in Adobe PhotoShop.

For this image I pushed the saturation and vibrance levers a bit in Adobe PhotoShop. Otherwise, it's as shot. The aperture was at f/5.6 and the shutter at 1/500 of a second. It was taken on the same roll of film as the previous one shown here.
