Leica vulcanite about to fall off

Hi all...

so after 3 long months waiting for my camera, i finally have it in my hands, an M4 with CV Nokton 1.1. The quest started long ago, but in April 29 pulled the trigger on it.

It is almost pristine as promised, one scuff here and there, dont affect my feelings.

However the mint vulcanite on the back cover is about to fall from the metal. Was wondering if anyone has tried to solve this... at first im planning to put some little piece of tape, since its the only place im aware it would loose the vulcanite.

Any suggestions?

You could apply -contact cement- and re-glue the mint vulcanite, if you are happy with the rest of the camera, and if the back piece, came off in one clean piece.

Oh, if the vulcanite on the back cover is falling off, the easiest fix is to buy a $5 replacement from DAG - www.dagcamera.com.

It is very common for the M4 back cover vulcanite to fall off. I don't know why - must be something very odd with the installation process; maybe the backs weren't heated as much as the body.

I have one pristine original black M4 and same thing - back cover Vulcanite is loose around the film indicator dial.

exactly there!!! and only there!!! maybe will inject with a syringe some type of pegament... loctite perhaps?

Plastic glue, UHU, Testor's plastic cement... I don't think Loctite will do, but then, I've never used it. Good luck! 😉

Yeah, I don't know.

I know that "Crazy Glue" and other cyano-acrylates are not recommended, because the glue migrates.

I suppose find a low viscosity (flows easily) glue and inject it in.

didnt know cyano acrylates migrated... good to know... UHU has some low viscosity, will try with that, thanks for the info guys

Use -Contact Cement-. I use "Goodyear Pliobond".

This has started happening to the round dot on the battery cover. It feels as though it was held on by contact cement, as it's quite... mucilaginous. Sorry, I don't know a better word to describe it.

Instead of a contact glue what about a two part epoxy???

I would use one that sets clear so there's less chance of making a mess.
I would use the 15 minute version.
You can mix a very small amount and apply with a syringe or small palette knife as needed.
Then secure the vulcanite with low tack masking tape and some pressure. (under a book)

Loctite on a Leica? geez. Rip off whats falling off, clean it shiny and leave it alone. No big.
