Since my last sincere, nostalgic and totally ineffective attempt to be, once again, a Leica photographer, a film photographer and rangefinder user ended in miserable failure, I have thought to fold my tent here at RFF and migrate to DSLR Exchange. I would miss the reparte and banter here, but I am a digital shooter exclusively and have some guilt attached to my continued participation here.

So I went over there and guess what? There's no one home! It's not well used at all.

How many of you go there? Anybody?

I check in there daily. I do film and digi and wish it were more active. Todd H is trying to get it jump started. Hoping for the best.

I had a quick look, but didn't feel too much of an urge to stay. Having to set up another disposable e-mail account just to be able to register (I got my hotmail account when they were still socially acceptable, before Microsoft stepped in, and I'm not giving it up now) is too much like hard work. ;)

Not DSLR Exchange but...

Not DSLR Exchange but...

I used to hang out in DPreview.com - but lately it has become full of fan-boys and often is not a nice place, they can get really nasty if you dare to say anything negitive about their chosen brand. I really havent found anywhere as comfortable as here to read about photography..

I checked in a few times, but there was never much happening there.

Dick, better to stay here I think. Plenty of people here are happy to talk about cameras other than Leicas :)

Yep, I think you're right. I like the discussions here. And, I'll be happy to talk Leicas — I just won't have any!

I think one of the important thing that is missing in DSLREx forum is the ability to login using RFF's username and password.

And no, that does not make it (and RFF) one big forum, it is called Single-Sign-On, and it's a good service to users.

Furthermore, the D in the forum name seem to imply that only conversations about digital SLR are welcome. If they cater simply older SLRs, then it can become a unique place, kinda like RFF.

I just visited again and the activity seems to have picked up slightly. There is even a burgeoning wnw thread going on there. It's an "Anything" thread, so why not pop over and post up a favorite shot of yours.

I complained about the digi-centric nature of the place in my introduction post. Doug, the admin/moderator/sysop (remember that term?) said that film was very welcome and even changed the name of the main discussion forum from Digital SLR discussion to SLR Discussion to show the direction they want to move the forum. It is probably a lot more work to change the name (especially since the url would change.)

I suppose we could wear two hats, participate in the other site, too, and see what happens. It would be good to see it thrive like RFF.

I tried to get some people over there (selfish motives since I just got a D700), some checked in but not many, and yes Doug is helpful in promoting film as well as digi SLR's, so come on over. Traffic is very slow right now, that just means your posts will stick around for a long time ;). Go to the Gallery as well and load up some images, would love to see 'em.
