Very nice Joe.
It is a little heftier than the Sonnar but you produce great results with the f1.1

I agree with you 100%......though I don't own a 50/1.1, I 've used one in the past...however, I do use the 35/1.2 and I don't mind the size at all......
cheers, michael

back alley, do you have a 1.5? and if so how would you compare it to the 1.1? (Aside from the 1 stop speed advantage).

I'm very curious how 1.1 renders with B/W on film body. Helen??

Joe,
The images look a bit soft. Are you shooting below 1/30 secs? Have you check the lens for focusing accuracy?

I just looked through that old thread and to me EVERY photo in it taken with CV 50/1.5 looks better than EVERY photo taken with CV 50/1.1 - as far as sharpenss, bokeh, overall way how each lens draws, etc. I did sell my CV 50/1.5 though, but for just one reason - Hex 50/1.2. If I didnt have the Hex - I'd for sure keep the CV 50/1.5 and be happy with it.

I think they're fine, just more so on focus placement, rather than softness. Besides you don't need to shoot below 1/30sec to achieve soft results handheld...I never understood where the idea of 1/60sec is enough to capture most things sharp.
With digital at 100% its so easy to see handshake from anything less than 1/250sec on 50mm lenses. On flickr most full size shots I examine taken below 1/125sec are soft even on M cameras. People are far too optimistic when it comes to handholding at slow speeds, especially when it comes to subject motion, even eye twitching and smiling. The slightest movement can affect the sharpness and then people blame the equipment.

I post quite a few scans from B&W negative to this post -

I will continue to post scans to that thread.

I have not been having the Best of Luck as of Late....:bang:
I decided to shoot neopan 400 (usually I do TriX or Tmax)
my First Mistake....
and when it came Time for Developing (my second Mistake)
I changed from Easy plastic reels to Metal coming under the hypnotic Spell of Marek's (aka mfogiel)
recent post here raving about its Glories....
Both Ideas for me turned into Disaster...not keen on neo400 and
I have never seen such badly Damaged negatives in my Life...TWO ruined rolls
so here is the only shot salvaged w/ my newly acquired 1.1
I'm seriously thinking of going DIGITAL instead of Postal...

i was in the darkroom from age 19...used s.s. reels and tanks for about 30 minutes and then went straight to patterson plastic and never looked back.

Its a Fab camera... though I could not understand why they had to put the card in the bottom plate / such a stupid hassle
( I preferred the ergonomics ^ look of the RD1)
BUT its All to Perfect sometimes
there is no Imperfection ...spot & shiny Clean each Image
and that sense of seeing the occasional background smear /not too attractive bokeh
there is Nothing like the way 'Film' Catches & Disperses LIGHT
though I do ADMIT digital does have its own MAGIC and BEAUTY
Just Different
but I am Seriously Thinking of giving it another GO
